STEPH JONES JOINS THE EAGLES

East Perth District Basketball Association (EPDBA) is pleased to announce that American power forward and experienced youth development coach, Stephanie Jones has agreed to join EPDBA as a Junior Development Officer in conjunction with her playing duties for the East Perth Eagles during their upcoming 2014 State Basketball League (SBL) Season.

Stephanie is an accomplished player, who after finishing her college career at University of Nebraska and Missouri Western State University in the United States of America played basketball professionally in Australia and Europe for eight years.  For the last two seasons Steph has played for the Cockburn Cougars in the SBL winning Cockburns MVP in 2012 and Runner-Up MVP in 2013.   In 2012 she led the WSBL in points per game with 25.9 points per game, second in the WSBL for rebounding with 13.7 rebounds per game, and was named in the WSBL All Star Team.  Over the past two SBL seasons, Steph Jones has been one of the most consistent players averaging over 22 points and 12 rebounds per game.

Stephanie brings a wealth of experience to her role as Junior Development Officer having spent the last eight years through the Steph Jones Basketball Academy in Nebraska, USA providing basketball coaching and youth development services.  Her experience includes interaction with schools in the Community through to individual and group training and development.

Her duties, whilst they will have a primacy on the women’s program, will include amongst other things:

  • School programs within the East Perth District with a view to generating new players for the Junior Domestic and Western Australia Basketball League (WABL) competitions;
  • Develop the talent that is already within the East Perth District Association from the Junior Domestic Competition through the WABL and SBL;  and
  • Create lasting relationships and support between the WABL and SBL programs.

This is an exciting year at East Perth for the women, not only for the SBL with the hiring of Conrad Francis and the addition of new players that have joined the squad; but for WABL with a Women’s team in each age group which is huge accomplishment considering in the past the women have not been able to fill all WABL teams” said Steph Jones

Steph added “I am excited about being part of East Perth District Basketball and given my involvement in the Women’s SBL and with the role of Junior Development Officer my goal is to build and foster relationships between the Women’s SBL team and the those teams in the WABL and Development League.”

EPDBA Chairman Anthony Fletcher had the following to say on the appointment “Steph is an accomplished player and experienced youth development coach who is very passionate about basketball, the people involved and in developing the young players from within our district.  We are looking forward to her involvement with our club.”
