East Perth District Basketball Association (EPDBA) is mourning the loss of one of the great contributors to the club with Kevin McLaughlin passing away this week.
Kevin contributed to East Perth District Basketball and Basketball in Western Australia for over 20 years. He is a well-known and loved scoretable official who has been active at SBL for many years, including being our club’s very own coordinator of the SBL scorebench for over 20 years.
Kevin also worked at NBL, WNBL and NWBL levels and regularly assisted at Australian Junior Championships hosted in WA, as well as during WABL finals.
The feelings and thoughts are best summed up by EPDBA Life Member Gerry Howard who said “He was well loved by everyone who came in contact with him. He was a very quiet and very patient man. He was totally reliable, a great worker for the club and was a keen East Perth supporter.
When we won the 2014 SBL Men’s Grand Final, Kevin was there and he wore his almost shy but very endearing half smile at the end of the game. His own show of appreciation and pleasure.
Kevin personified the very best in sportsmanship and integrity.”
Gerry added “I will always remember him as the Hot Chocolate man. Every home game I would get the orders for tea, coffee and hot chocolate from the scorebench and suffice to say that Kevin loved his Hot Chocolate.
I will miss his genuine contribution to the club and his way of handling any difficult situation. I will miss his presence and his genuine support.”
Others in the club recall Kevin as a True Gentlemen and an absolute pleasure to meet. We will miss that smile on the scorebench and that friendly welcome every time you met him.
East Perth District Basketball Association extends its sincere condolences to Kevin’s family and many friends.

The Requiem Mass for the Repose of the Soul of the Late Mr Kevin MCLAUGHLIN of Kiara will be held in the Infant Jesus Parish Church, 47 Wellington Rd, Morley on Tuesday (28.6.2016) commencing at 1.00pm.
Vigil Prayers and Rosary will be recited at the Church on Monday (27.6.2016) commencing at 8.15pm.
