R.I.P Ian “Goldy” Drummond
The Avoca Football Netball Club is saddened to hear of the passing of our former player in Ian “Goldy” Drummond.
Goldy Started playing football for Avoca in 1960 as a 13 year old junior, and it was obvious that he was a very talented youngster from the beginning, and this was justified when he received the Best Under 20 player award in 1962, 1964 & 1965.
Goldy was a rough and tough centre half back, but could also drift forward to kick a goal when needed, which was evident in 1970 when he bagged 9 goals in a game against Moonambel. He was also the recipient of the Best Team Man award in 1970.
Goldy passed his footballing prowess onto the youth of Avoca, when he coached the Under 15 team in 1971, and also played in the senior football team’s Runner up side in that season. He was also rewarded for his off field commitment to the club in 1971 when he received the Best Clubman award.
Goldy was an outstanding contributor to the Avoca Bulldogs over the years and he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Our condolences to the Drummond Family.
