Vale – Joy Gilmour – 1923-2014
The club extends its deepest sympathies to the family andfriends of Joy Gilmour who passed away earlier this week. Joy had a long and close association with the Upper Gully Football Club, her first husband Tommy Hayes was one of the clubs first benefactors, donating the land at Talaskia Avenue for the club’s first ground. Their three sons, John, Rod and Trevor all started in the Under 16’s with Upper Gully before going onto the seniors during the 1960’s; John and Rod played in the 1959 U16’s premiership side, Rod played in the 1963 and 1964 Senior Premiership sides and Trevor played in 1965 Reserves Premiership side. Rod also won the U16 club B&F in 1961 as well as being captain of that side, while John is an Upper Gully Life Member. Joy’s second husband also was associated with club being a past player, trainer and committeeman during the 1950’s and 1960’s

Terry Hopkins Junior Development Foundation 2014
In 2005 the club lost dear friend and devotee Terry Hopkins following a long battle with cancer. In recognition of his courage and passion for our club, which was an inspiration to all, the former “Royals Club” was renamed.
The charter of the THF is simple; it is devoted to raising funds to help ensure the future of the club through the support and development of our young players. Membership costs $110.00. All proceeds from membership and other THF fundraising initiatives are used to benefit our younger players. Over the last 12 years the THF has sponsored the club’s under 19 “Rising Star” award, provided warm-up jackets for the club’s under19s, funded information/education evenings for the club’s juniors, provided Sherrin footballs for awards to under 17 players and provided funding and support for the development of our junior players through coach education provided by “The Modern Game”. In the past 12 months alone the THF has continued to contribute funds to retain the services of “The Modern Game”, provided funding for the under 19/under 17 Boot Camp, provided two sets of warm-up jackets for the under 17’s and run an information night and BBQ for junior players and parents.
