Mixed day last week with the under 19’s recording a come from behind victory after a poor first half; they won their first last quarter of the season; if anyone knows any players that can get down and play please let the club know, the under 19’s are having a good season even with limited numbers each week; thanks to Tom Barr who filled in the last couple of weeks while on leave from the Defence Forces in Canberra. The reserves let themselves down not playing four quarters of football; good to see Chris Moorhouse and Peter Cutts out on the ground helping out the reserves. The seniors also fell away again in the second half being unable to convert any opportunities; they need to keep working hard as they are getting plenty of the football and a win will be just around the corner. Saturday we are Mitcham with a couple of players returning to the side and looking at upsetting the ladder leaders. The annual THF Luncheon is on the 31st May; $50 gets lunch and guest speaker, Comedian Chris Bennett; further details below; help support the THF support the development of the juniors coming through the club; attached is an invite to attend. Special Guest - CHRIS BENNETT
Chris Bennett has been performing as a stand-up comedian ever since he discovered his family was a captive audience. He has entertained the widest variety of crowds from AFL football club functions to high-profile corporate events. His television credits include performances on shows such as Hey Hey It's Saturday and In Melbourne Tonight.
Chris has also made his presence felt on commercial radio, starting with Gold FM writing for the breakfast show as well as performing on-air segments.
Following on from Gold, and after a highly successful stint on Triple M, he moved into the hot spot with Fox FM's number 1 rating breakfast show.
These days, Chris has opted for sleep over breakfast and has returned to Triple M part-time whilst concentrating on his first love – stand-up! Not only is Chris a seasoned performer going from strength to strength, he is also extremely funny.
For bookings please contact Mark Godfrey – 0421 370 684 – RSVP by 29th May
In 2005 the club lost dear friend and devotee Terry Hopkins following a long battle with cancer. In recognition of his courage and passion for our club, which was an inspiration to all, the former “Royals Club” was renamed in his honour. This year the THF have done away with the membership fee and instead have decided to concentrate its fundraising on the annual luncheon. As all THF members were required to be a member of the Upper Ferntree Gully Football Club as per the constitution part of the THF membership fee was returned to the club. With this change now all money raised at the Luncheon will go to the THF. Of course anybody wishing to be a member of the Upper Ferntree Gully Football Club is more than welcome to do so. The charter of the THF is simple; it is devoted to raising funds to help ensure the future of the club through the support and development of our young players. All proceeds from THF fundraising initiatives are used to benefit our younger players. Primarily the THF provides in conjunction with the Junior Club funding and support for the development of our junior players through coach education provided by “The Modern Game”. Over the last 13 years the THF has sponsored the club’s under 19 “Rising Star” award, provided warm-up jackets for the club’s under 17’s and under19s, funded information/education evenings for the club’s juniors, provided Sherrin footballs for awards to under 17 players, continued to contribute funds to retain the services of “The Modern Game” and provided funding for the under 19/under 17 Boot Camp.
If anyone is interested in further info on the THF please contact Robyn Lawson on 0412 405 116

UFTG Vets
The vets ventured to Wantirna South last Sunday with renewed confidence, the return of Greg “Fireman” Blundell, James Campbell, Brad Smith, Chris Smith, Scotty Ashman, Simon “Coach” McGillien and Gervo along with the inclusion of Andy Hayman and Dean “Weiry” Roberts saw the side start of well with a long bomb from Derko to open proceedings. The first half saw some great link up football played and a lead at half time of six goals had smiles all round during the break. 9 goals on the board all by different players showed that the Vets were finally playing as a team; great reaction by Craig Bennett kicking his first goal running into an open goal during the second quarter. The third quarter started well with plenty of shots on goal but then things got worse when Wantirna South piled on the goals against the wind kicking five goals to nil for the quarter. Rotations were being made and with Casey, Greggy, Weiry, Derko and the two Jason’s all playing well and Andy Lee taking a couple of speckies through the middle of the ground, the side steadied the ship with a couple of goals in the last quarter, including the last one to Heath, holding on to win by two points. Next game will be against Bayswater at Kings Park on the 1st June. Meanwhile training at King’s Park from 6.30pm under the charge of Jason Zinnow and Simon “Coach” McGillien will continue on Thursday Evenings. Get down for a run then stick around for a meal and beer. Anyone interested in playing this year please contact Greg Blundell on 0412 671 135 for more info. Also Greg requires more helpers for this season; let him know if interested.
