Saturday is the Terry Hopkins Junior Development Foundation Luncheon which is sure to be a another wonderful event which raises funds to support the development of our junior players and their progression to the senior club; $50 gets lunch and guest speaker, Comedian Chris Bennett; further details below; please contact Mark Godfrey on 0412 370 684 to book your seat. Great result last week with the seniors having a win against the previously undefeated Mitcham to get their season back on track, great to see Tim Smith back in the red and blue alongside Andrew Godfrey with Casey Scvorpions having the week off; also great to our captain Tim Riseley return after injury and contribute to the win. The reserves were again unable to play four quarters with the third quarter costing them the four points, well done to Leigh Lawson on his 150th game for the club and also good to see Jordy Whiteman go well on his return. With the coach Cory Rodgers pulling up sore the reserves had a couple of fills with the President “Derko” having a run in the off week for the Vets and also Peter Cutts playing alongside his son Jayden in a rare occurrence. The under 19’s even with a couple of new inclusions were again undermanned and ran out of legs going down to a good side after playing some good footy early; welcome to Daniel Scott (Ferntree Gully) and from last years under 17’s welcome to Jake Saltum and Tom Roleff who both fitted in well. The under 19’s have picked up another couple of players from Boronia this week which should further strengthen the side. Saturday we host Ringwood looking for seniors to continue last weeks form and the other two sides to bounce back with a win before the break for the long weekend. The Vets host Bayswater on Sunday at Kings Park with plenty of confidence after their win last outing. Past Players Day next home game on the 14th June when we will be celebrating the 1964 and 1974 Senior Premiership’s and also the 1984 Bluebirds Under 12 Premiership. Next function is Ladies Night on the 21st June; Rated as "the Best night of the year" ; further details below. Milestones
Congratulations to Leigh Lawson on his 150th game last week against Mitcham. After playing 169 games with the junior club, Leigh then played 33 games with the under 18’s from 2002 until 2004, playing in the 2003 under 18’s Garand Final and winning the club B&F in 2004. He played his first game in the reserves against Heathmont in round one of 2005 and played his first senior game during round four of 2006. Leigh won the reserves B&F in both 2006 and 2007 and followed up with another B&F in the reserves last year. During 2011 Leigh played his 100th game in round 11 against Waverley Blues. Leigh has been captain of the reserves since 2010 which included the reserves Grand Final in 2012. Despite a couple of bad injuries with broken bones Leigh has been resilient which saw him awarded the 10 year playing recognition award at the senior club in 2012. He has now played 140 reserves games and 10 senior games with plenty more to come in the red and blue.
Welcome to Daniel Scott (Ferntree Gully), Jake Saltum and Tom Roleff (Under 17’s last year) who all played their first games of under 19 football for the club last week against Mitcham.

Special Guest - CHRIS BENNETT
Chris Bennett has been performing as a stand-up comedian ever since he discovered his family was a captive audience. He has entertained the widest variety of crowds from AFL football club functions to high-profile corporate events. His television credits include performances on shows such as Hey Hey It's Saturday and In Melbourne Tonight.
Chris has also made his presence felt on commercial radio, starting with Gold FM writing for the breakfast show as well as performing on-air segments.
Following on from Gold, and after a highly successful stint on Triple M, he moved into the hot spot with Fox FM's number 1 rating breakfast show.
These days, Chris has opted for sleep over breakfast and has returned to Triple M part-time whilst concentrating on his first love – stand-up! Not only is Chris a seasoned performer going from strength to strength, he is also extremely funny.
For bookings please contact Mark Godfrey – 0412 370 684 – RSVP by 29th May
In 2005 the club lost dear friend and devotee Terry Hopkins following a long battle with cancer. In recognition of his courage and passion for our club, which was an inspiration to all, the former “Royals Club” was renamed in his honour. This year the THF have done away with the membership fee and instead have decided to concentrate its fundraising on the annual luncheon. As all THF members were required to be a member of the Upper Ferntree Gully Football Club as per the constitution part of the THF membership fee was returned to the club. With this change now all money raised at the Luncheon will go to the THF. Of course anybody wishing to be a member of the Upper Ferntree Gully Football Club is more than welcome to do so. The charter of the THF is simple; it is devoted to raising funds to help ensure the future of the club through the support and development of our young players. All proceeds from THF fundraising initiatives are used to benefit our younger players. Primarily the THF provides in conjunction with the Junior Club funding and support for the development of our junior players through coach education provided by “The Modern Game”. Over the last 13 years the THF has sponsored the club’s under 19 “Rising Star” award, provided warm-up jackets for the club’s under 17’s and under19s, funded information/education evenings for the club’s juniors, provided Sherrin footballs for awards to under 17 players, continued to contribute funds to retain the services of “The Modern Game” and provided funding for the under 19/under 17 Boot Camp.
If anyone is interested in further info on the THF please contact Robyn Lawson on 0412 405 116
