Last week started well with the U19’s and Reserves having good wins. Unfortunately the end of the day wasn’t as good with a bad ankle injury to Daniel Beyer during the seniors disappointing loss; the club wishes ‘Danga’ a speedy recovery. Positives from the seniors were the debut of Tom Bullock and the continued good form of Tom Meagher who are both U19 players. Congratulations to Sam Crocker on his 50th game for the club in the reserves win last week, also well done to Patrick ‘Gab’ Bullock who played his first reserves game last week after playing another good game in the U19’s. Good performances also by Sandon Jennings and Dylan Salanitri from the U17’s who helped out the U19’s. Big games again this week against South Belgrave for all three sides as we push into the second half of the season. The seniors are now in fourth place, three percent behind third and take on fifth place South Belgrave who are two games behind while the reserves are now in second place by percentage, two points behind first place with South Belgrave in sixth place on the ladder on the same points showing how vital a win is for the reserves. The U19’s are currently in fourth a game behind third place. Well done to Corey Wakefield who played his first game with Eastern Ranges last week. Thanks to Dean Wilson for organising the successful Sportsman’s Night. The Netball side went close to a win last week; get down to watch them on Friday nights to show our support. Well done to Copper Mitchell who kicked 5 goals in the U13’s last Sunday and also Jake Smith with 9 goals and Josh Danopoulos with 6 in the U12’s big win against Blackburn while the U17D side had a draw last Sunday against Blackburn. Attached is the June newsletter for the junior club. Thanks to Sue from the U12’s who has put her hand up for the junior’s secretary role. Good luck to all junior sides on Sunday; times and venues below for all sides. Next juniors function is the Trivia Night on this Saturday the 27th June at Kings Park. The annual THF Luncheon has been moved to the 11th July due to the availability of a guest speaker; also on this date we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1965 reserves premiership team; the 30th anniversary of the Bluebirds under 15’s team, the 40th anniversary of the Bluebirds under 14’s team as well as the 10th anniversary of the 2005 under 13’s team. Looking through the junior premiership sides below highlights many of these players went on to play senior footy at Upper Gully which shows the strong links between the junior’s and senior’s over the years. 11th July will also be a general past players day from all eras - all welcome - if any past players wish to attend the THF lunch (commencing 12 noon) please contact Mick Stone on 0412 270 211 or Casey de Groot on 0419 377 588 and they will organise tables. King Club 2015
Neil Thompson is running the King Club this year and has come up with a new initiative to get the guys talking at half time in the rooms each week about the footy. The idea is for members to cast votes (3,2,1) on the player they think has had the greatest impact in the first half of the game and has gotten the team off to a flying start. The votes will be tallied up over the year and the player with the most votes will receive the King Club Flyer Trophy. Voting slips will be handed out to members of the King Club on Saturday. The King Club is a support group for the Upper Ferntree Gully Football Club. For 2015 members of the King Club have access to the rooms during the senior game half time were they receive food and drinks complimentary during the break; there are raffles to raise further money with joker poker. You become a club member and have free entry into home games and also receive a king club polo. There is also a King Club social event during the year, which includes food and drink. Neil Thompson can be contacted for further Details.neilt101@hotmail.com; mobile: 0400 921 357.
