Good wins to the U19’s and Reserves last week while the seniors went down again. Highlights from the reserves game were Adam Ward kicking seven and Tyler Willis again kicking five. This has kept the reserves second on the ladder one game ahead of seventh and half a game behind top spot, while the U19’s have moved to third and the seniors stay in fourth. Saturday we are looking to get three wins at Silvan were the seniors are playing for the first time since 1949 and the reserves since 1959. Due to a request from Silvan the U19’s will be playing at 4pm after the seniors game. This means the Reserves will start at 11:30am and the seniors 1:30pm. Congratulations to Tim Riseley on playing his 150th game last week and also good to see Jared Derksen play his first senior game for the year. The Netball side has a week off this Friday with no games scheduled. Of the junior sides it appears that the U14’s, U13’s, U12’s and U11’s will play finals this year with all sides sitting third on the ladder with three games before finals; the U15’s are sitting in fifth spot so need to finish of well to make finals while both the U17’s are both three games behind fifth. Thanks to Susan from the U12’s who has put her hand up for the junior’s secretary role. Good luck to all junior sides on Sunday; times and venues below for all sides. The annual THF Luncheon is on next Saturday the 11th July; this is an important event to help raise funds so the club can continue to develop the junior club coaches and players that will end up with the seniors. The day starts at 12pm with Jason Wood (Federal Member for Latrobe the guest speaker) and costs $60 per head with a two course meal and drinks included; contact Tom Caruso for tickets; also on this date we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1965 reserves premiership team; the 30th anniversary of the Bluebirds under 15’s team, the 40th anniversary of the Bluebirds under 14’s team as well as the 10th anniversary of the 2005 under 13’s team. Looking through the junior premiership sides below highlights many of these players went on to play senior footy at Upper Gully which shows the strong links between the junior’s and senior’s over the years. 11th July will also be a general past players day from all eras - all welcome - if any past players wish to attend the THF lunch (commencing 12 noon) please contact Mick Stone on 0412 270 211 or Casey de Groot on 0419 377 588 and they will organise tables. Memberships are still available please see Andy Lee or check out the website for further info. Upcoming events include the annual Ladies Night on this Saturday the 4th July, one of the highlights of the year, while the IPod Night has moved to the 18th July; further events below so put these dates in your diary and contact the club if tickets required. Special thanks to Dean Wilson for organising the Sportsman’s Night last week and thanks for those that attended a terrific night. The Committee has been busy so far this season and as always would welcome anyone willing to help out; we are in urgent need for someone to put their hand up as Treasurer as Phil Gellie has had to resign due to work commitments, please contact Peter Hards or Tom Caruso if you are able to help out. Don’t forget to check out the website;http://www.uftgfc.sportingpulse.net for all the latest news and photo’s from around the club. Terry Hopkins Junior Development Foundation
In 2001 a coterie was formed by some interested members and ex-players with a view to forming a foundation whereby a support group could be set up to assist the transition of junior players into the senior ranks of Upper Gully. This group was originally named “The Royals Club” and their agenda was to offer financial, attendance and moral support, mentoring, guest speakers and skill specialists etc. to keep our great club going.
Our target group was the Under 15’s and 16’s of the Upper Gully Juniors in conjunction with the Colts (under 18’s) of the Senior Club.
Neville Roberts was the prime instigator of this initiative and through consultation with the senior club, his idea was taken to the junior club and the birth of the then “Royals Club” took place.
It was agreed that a U/16 player would be selected at the end of the season as “The Royals Rising Star”. A unique criterion was set for the selection of this award with the intention being to select a player most likely to play senior football at Upper Gully.
In 2005 the club lost dear friend and devotee Terry Hopkins following a long battle with cancer. In recognition of his courage and passion for our club, which was an inspiration to all, the former “Royals Club” was renamed in his honour.
Over the past years, the Terry Hopkins Foundation has continued to evolve from what began as a passionate attempt to set up a formal organisation to assist the senior club in promoting and developing players for the future.
Last year the THF did away with the membership fee and instead decided to concentrate its fundraising on the annual luncheon. As all THF members were required to be a member of the Upper Ferntree Gully Football Club as per the constitution, part of the THF membership fee was returned to the club. With this change now all money raised at the Luncheon will go to the THF. Of course anybody wishing to be a member of the Upper Ferntree Gully Football Club is more than welcome to do so.
The charter of the THF is simple; it is devoted to raising funds to help ensure the future of the club through the support and development of our young players.
All proceeds from THF fundraising initiatives are used to benefit our younger players. Primarily the THF provides in conjunction with the Junior Club funding and support for the development of our junior players through coach education provided by “The Modern Game”.
Since 2001 the THF has sponsored the club’s under 19 “Rising Star” award, provided warm-up jackets for the club’s under 17’s and under 19s, funded information/education evenings for the club’s juniors, provided Sherrin footballs for awards to under 17 players, continued to contribute funds to retain the services of “The Modern Game” and provided funding for the under 19/under 17 Boot Camp amongst other contributions.

Miletsones
Congratulations to Tim Riseley on his 150th game last week against South Belgrave. Tim joined the Upper Gully Juniors in 2004 going on to represent Victoria at the 2004 Under 15 national championship in Perth. Tim played his first senior game as a 17 year old in 2006 against Templestowe in round 8. That season he also won the Colts League and Club B&F. Although being named Colts captain in 2007, Tim only played one game that season when the seniors had a bye, for a total of 15 games and 14 goals with the Colts. From 2007 Tim has been a regular member of the senior team, playing in the 2010 Premiership side and also winning the Best and Fairest that season. Tim took over the club captaincy when Tate Hickleton was injured in 2011 and has continued in that role since. During round 6 in 2012 Tim played his 100th game against Doncaster and has gone on to win the 2012 and 2013 senior B&F awards. Tim has played all 150 games in the seniors kicking 63 goals.
VFL/TAC Cup Players
Chris Michaliades again kicked two goals and was named in the best for Port Melbourne reserves against Box Hill last week.

King Club 2015
Neil Thompson is running the King Club this year and has come up with a new initiative to get the guys talking at half time in the rooms each week about the footy. The idea is for members to cast votes (3,2,1) on the player they think has had the greatest impact in the first half of the game and has gotten the team off to a flying start. The votes will be tallied up over the year and the player with the most votes will receive the King Club Flyer Trophy. Voting slips will be handed out to members of the King Club on Saturday. The King Club is a support group for the Upper Ferntree Gully Football Club. For 2015 members of the King Club have access to the rooms during the senior game half time were they receive food and drinks complimentary during the break; there are raffles to raise further money with joker poker. You become a club member and have free entry into home games and also receive a king club polo. There is also a King Club social event during the year, which includes food and drink. Neil Thompson can be contacted for further Details.neilt101@hotmail.com; mobile: 0400 921 357.
