After a good home and away season the club enters finals this weekend with the seniors playing their first final since the 2010 Premiership and the U19’s and Reserves their first since the 2012 Grand Finals. On Saturday the U19’s play Boronia at East Burwood in a Qualifying Final, while the Seniors play Ringwood and the Reserves play Templestowe at Glen Waverley on Sunday in Elimination Finals. Good luck to all sides. Training and team selection/meals has this week moved to Friday with the seniors playing Sunday. Last week saw all three sides finish with good wins before a good night socially; thanks to Tom Neville for his guitar playing and singing after the game. On field there was plenty of interest in the Club goal kicking award with both Jake Cawsey, 7 goals and Adam Ward, 10 goals having good games to finish on the same amount of goals for the season. Also well done to Ryan Murray kicking 9 goals in the seniors win. Mixed emotions for our junior Grand Final sides with the U12’s winning in extra time to take out the Premiership while the U13’s went down by a point after leading all day. The Netball side had another win last week by way of a forfeit to finish the season last week; well done on a great first season girls. King Club lunch was a great day with EFL CEO Phil Murton explaining the new points system to be introduced and the inaugural King Club Flyer award being presented to Jarrod Whiteman. A well-deserved Bendigo Bank Volunteer award was received by Tom Caruso last week for the mountain of work he does around the club. Well done to Greg Blundell and Jason Zinnow who finished first and second in Bayswater Vets Best and Fairest award this season; the club is hopeful of getting the Vets back at Upper Gully next season so if anyone is interested please contact Casey DeGroot or Jason Zinnow. This year’s Football/Netball Presentation Night will be on the 19th September at Dorset Gardens Hotel; Tickets are $65 per head which includes 3 course meal and entry into Nightclub afterwards, so put this date in your diary and contact the club if tickets required. Attached below is the Life Membership criteria for anyone wishing to nominate someone for Upper Gully Football Club’s highest honour as well as the criteria for Outstanding Services.
