Rampant Inglewood destroys Armadale

A devastating final 25-minute burst propelled Inglewood United to a convincing 6-1 victory over a hapless Armadale in NPL WA action on Saturday afternoon.

The game at Alfred Skeet Reserve was delicately poised at 1-1 after Nicholas Tatasciore scored a goal against the run of play in the 60th minute for Armadale, who were one player short after Faustinho Machochi received his second yellow card early in the second half.

The goal from deep in the penalty box stunned goalkeeper Luke Martino and seemingly rattled Inglewood, who had dominated the match to that stage but only had a Ryan Clarke goal moments before half-time to show for their dominance.

But it shook Inglewood from their goal scoring stupor and a Ryan Francis chip over goalkeeper Matthew Gould in the 70th minute was the start of the deluge.

Inglewood had dominated throughout the match with hard-running and creativity, especially from Clarke and Ryan Francis.

But Inglewood’s earlier inconsistency in front of goals was eradicated during their scintillating finish.

Substitute Million Butshire tapped home Inglewood’s third after another Armadale turnover to effectively seal the deal in the 80th minute.

But Inglewood was hungry for more carnage on the scoreboard and three minutes later free-kick specialist Greg Sharland converted a trademark swerving bullet from long range to consign Armadale to more misery.

The goal was memorably celebrated with some of the members of the team running over and enthusiastically embracing their hard-nosed coach Graham Normanton.

Moments before the whistle, Clarke added a second and a Jonathon Stripe header completed the massacre.

Armadale, who had been outplayed but gallant for the first 70 minutes of the contest, showed little resolve towards the end and a lack of accountability was painfully obvious.

The Reds suffered a setback when Sam Loveless suffered a leg injury late in the first half and he did not return to the contest.

After their humiliating loss at home, Armadale coach Lee Bamber gave his side a lengthy on-field tongue lashing and refused to speak to the media post-game.

Conversely, Normanton was rapt with his side’s effort and desire throughout the match.

“I thought we totally outplayed them all day and deserved everything we got,” he said.

“I told the boys at half-time we would get six and that it was only a matter time because we were creating enough chances in the first half to suggest so.”
