UNDER 14 GIRLS - YELLOW

Surf Coast 4 - Bell Park 2

The hard work and dedication of all the girls has paid off with their FIRST WIN of the season. This was a terrific result for all the girls and everyone played very well. Emily Russell in goals produced some great saves and Ruby Issell in defence was outstanding. Up front Isabella Wakefield and Caitlin Aitken (4 goals) formed a formidable partnership with some excellent short passing. All the girls showed great enthusiasm and this should be the springboard to better results. Look out Barwon next week!

SENIOR MEN – STATE LEAGUE

Surf Coast 2 V’s Strathmore 0

After much soul searching during the week, Surf Coast FC’s State League men bounced back with a 2-0 win against Strathmore, in Strathmore. The team started well, not giving the second place opponents much time on the ball, nor giving them the chance to get there game going.

After an early scare the team settled in to the game. Using width in attack, the men went down the wings via Ben Ward and Riley Dean. At the 35 minute mark, Surf Coast were awarded a penalty. Rhys Manning converted the goal, giving them the lead and belief that had been missing for the past few weeks. Manning’s goal certainly cemented the boys back together.

In the second half, the game was a little less pretty but the boys were determined to hang on to the lead, defending with urgency. Surf Coast looked dangerous all day from corner kicks, and were awarded one about 15 minutes in to the half. Alan Dower whipping the ball into the goal square, and Matt Slater heading it in near post. A great moment for the team, and for Slater who battled hard to secure his place in the team.

Winning all positions on the ground, Surf Coast reduced Strathmore to long bombs over the top, but goalkeeper Barry Schroeter would not be beaten in goal, and holding on to get his long over due clean sheet. Overall, a great performance from the team, and a proud moment to be Surf Coast FC.

SENIOR WOMEN – STATE LEAGUE

Surf Coast 4 V Clifton Hill 1

Surf Coast’s senior women’s state league team won comfortable against Clifton Hill, 4-1. A great team performance from all players. The team currently sit third on the ladder with only 2 losses. It is hoped the second half of the season will see them climb up a rung or two!

UNDER 15 BOYS

Surf Coast 0 V Bell Park SC 4

Round 11 - Sunday 20/7/2014

The boys lost 0-4 today but that was not indicative of the match.

In the first half the ball was in our half of the pitch almost 90% of the time but we couldn't score. The boys were playing a great game with smart passing and possession but unfortunately couldn't convert. At the 30 min mark Bell Park scored 1 goal making half time 0-1.

In the second half a few lapses in concentration and fatigue saw  Bell Park kick  3 Goals in last 5 min of game.

Special mention to Callum who played a super game as keeper and saved 2 certain goals with his quick reactions.

UNDER 14 GIRLS (BLUE)

Surf Coast 1 V’s Barwon SC 0

Surf Coast Blue U14 girls continue to show good form, coming home with a 1-0 victory over Barwon SC this weekend, with Lily Guest scoring the winning goal at the 25th minute mark in the first half.  The girls had many chances to increase the lead with some very near misses.  Showing courage and determination, the girls clearly demonstrated that size does not matter, using their skill and speed to take on all challenges from the opposition.
