Round 9 - season half way mark

Under 11 Joeys

Some excellent soccer played today by the Joeys that resulted in a dominant performance against Westgate and an end result of 3-0. Before the game we were practicing running down the wing and cutting the ball back to a central player to shoot - and the girls thought it was fantastic when this was exactly how Charli (right wing) and Honor (left wing, but who cleverly came across to the centre when she saw the play go down the right side) scored the first goal.

Today this was our focus and the girls executed it very well winning at least 6 corners in the second half alone and forcing the other team's goalie to make 3 or 4 really good saves that on most days would have ended up in the net.

A couple of of our younger Joeys, Milla and Zoe, played their best games today at left and right back and it was great to see them running the ball out of defence and up the wings. Also great to see the ball being played across the park in both defence and attack. Well done to all the girls.

Under 11 Kangaroos

Our second trip to the Yarraville Glory home ground for the season.  It was a tougher game than we had previously and our tussle with these girls has been a highlight for the year.

The girls built on the preparation from training where we are trying to pass between ouselves and not just kick the ball away and to the opposition.  Our first half saw us apply enormous pressure on the Yarraville goal with a number of shots just wide or at the crossbar.

The backline held firm as always and Lam Nhi saved an almost certain goal in the second half.

This weeks game was tied up at 0-0 until the last minute when we were awarded a penalty for handball in the goal box.  Hollie who had filled in for us with Annabel away cooly slotted the goal.
