Round 11 - Sunday 14 July

Under 11 Derby Match Kangas V Joeys

What a great morning for the local derby.  It was great to see so many parents on the sidelines and to see all those blue and girls soccer jumpers out on the big field running for the ball.  And what a game ...it was played in great spirit and the song at the end of the game was just wonderful to hear.
It was a big step up for all the girls to play on the full pitch and to understand how much further it is to run and pass when you have the whole field to work with. There was some really impressive play from both sides which makes me realise how far you have all progressed this year.  There were lots of 'pretty to watch' moments during the game and some really impressive runs with passes

Most of the goals were the result of strong build up from the back and the Joeys goal at the end of the game capped off a tremendous performance from everyone for the morning.

Under 12s

Finally after 3 weeks of no competitive games due to holidays and forfeits the U12 Joeys met and played a very competitive and tactical Darebin Falcons Womens SC. Prior to kick off there was some concern as to the numbers of players the girls could round up for the game. At one stage there was only 8 girls committed to the match. At kick off we had eleven U12 players start the match and 5 Under 11 players that stepped up admirably and performed as if they belonged playing with the older girls.

A big thank you is extended from me and the U12 girls to all the U11 girls that helped us out.

Now back to the highlights of the game. Tough is what it can be described as. Darebin tactics were smart, they stacked there defence and midfield which gave our girls no room to play. Every time we went forward we were greeted by a wall of opposition players that were all too happy to boot the ball out as far as possible. The majority of the game was played in the middle of the park. We had our chances to extend our lead but every shot and half shot was either blocked or saved by the wall of defenders. The final result was solid one nil to the Joeys. The goal was made from a set piece that we practised at training. From a corner kick Delali passed it to a presenting Isabella E who expertly passed it back to an overlapping Delali. Delali finished the play with a stunning drive to the back post which rocketed over the hapless keeper. Special mention to all the U11’s players, Jamie on her first game, the two girls who stood up to have a go at keeper – Emma and Destiny and our whole defence for only allowing them one shot on goal. Sometimes you win and its not pretty. This was one of those occasions. Well done girls!!!

Under 18s

Unfortunately the under 18 went down 3-8 against very strong 2nd on the table Clifton Hill. The game was very competitive and we were up 4-3 until last 10 minutes of the game. Overall we missed few goals and unfortunately we received  5 shots and 5 unlikely fast  goals in the last period of time. Fitness is a problem for us and we were short of girls on the bench.  Great effort and we remain in 4th position overall.  Next weeek we are at home against Banyule - see you at training - Antonio
