MEDIA RELEASE - Friday 6th Sept 7.00pm

Football Queensland CEO Geoff Foster today announced that the Board of Football Queensland had agreed to award SWQ Thunder a full licence to compete in the National Premier Leagues in 2014 and beyond subject to them meeting Football Federation Australia’s Accreditation Criteria.

This will allow SWQ Thunder to compete in the Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s for the first time and will give the area a huge boost in retaining their developed players.

In 2013, SWQ Thunder had been invited to participate in the NPL in the junior age groups as well as the Under 20 Men’s and through continued hard work and application of the NPL Criteria has shown the football community they are ready to take the next step.

The SWQ Thunder under 20 Men’s team heads into the NPL under 20 Grand Final on Sunday where they will take on Brisbane City with some extra motivation and we wish everyone at both clubs the best of luck.

Football Queensland wishes to congratulate SWQ Thunder on their licence and wishes them all the best in the future.
