Reconfigured Miniroos fields allow earlier finish

Football Bundaberg has delivered on two key aims for the Miniroos divisions by reconfiguring the fields at Martens Oval for the 2015 season.

The Under 6 division will play on Fields 6 and 7, which are already the correct size for that age group and are conveniently located in the middle of Martens Oval for our youngest age group.

The Under 7 division will play on Fields 8 and 9, which will be reduced in size so they are also the correct size for this age group.

The Under 8 division will play on two fields to be marked across Field 4 - to be called Fields 4a and 4b. Again, these fields will be the correct size for this age group, unlike the fields used previously which were too narrow.

The Under 9 division will play on two fields to be marked across Field 3 - to be called Fields 3a and 3b. As with the Under 8s, this will allow them to play on a correctly sized field.

The Under 10 amd 11s will share the use of Field 10 and two fields to be marked across Field 5 - to be known as Fields 5a and 5b. The latter will be the correct size, while Field 10 will still be slightly narrower than recommended, although significantly wider than previously due to Fields 8 and 9 being reduced in width for Under 7s rather than Under8s and 9s.

Apart from the football developmental benefits of playing on correctly sized fields, the creation of additional fields for all Miniroos divisions will enable the games to finish much earler.

While additional teams can stillbe added in these divisions, which may extend the finish times, the current draws have the Under 6 and 7 games concluding by noon, the Under 8s and 9s by 1pm and the Under 10s and 11s just after 1.30pm.

This compares with some games continuing until 4pm last season.

As part of this change, the Miniroos teams playing the first and last games of the day, except on field 10, will be required to take out and return the temporary goalposts.

The draw for Miniroos games has now been completed up to Easter. Additional teams can still be added until Easter, so the draw for the rest of the season will be available during the school holidays.

Miniroos games willnot be scheduled on Easter Saturday, the following Saturday in the middle of the school holidays, on the Anzac and Queen's Birthday weekends, or the middle weekend of the mid-year school holidays.

This will mean teams are scheduled to play 22 games, less one or two byes if there are an odd number of teams in that age division.
