With our group playing in their first finals match, it was a very exciting day. Up against North Brunswick who (deservedly) finished on top of the ladder we knew we faced a tough challenge.
We started brilliantly in general play but importantly were not able to capitalise on our dominance during the first half, but still taking a narrow lead into half time.
In the second half North Brunswick upped the ante but we held on strongly during the third quarter to still be within a goal at the last change.
With the strengthening wind at their back in the final quarter, our opponents took control of the game and were clearly the stronger team on the day. Reflecting on the game, North Brunswick were a formidable foe and taught us a lesson in being strong in the contest when the stakes are high.
It is fair to say that only a handful of our boys should be satisfied with how they played on the day. However, we earned the right, due to our terrific run home in the home and away season to have the double chance and we now have the chance to learn from our experiences in next week’s Preliminary Final against Kew Rovers.
