Alex Bunton

Bio: Another home-grown product at the Capitals, Bunton graduated from three seasons at the AIS to the Canberra roster last season, playing a career-high 18 games in her first campaign.

A talented ACT junior, the 196cm Bunton stepped up to enjoy her breakout season in Canberra, playing a major role as the starting centre, averaging career-highs across the board.

The signing of Lauren Jackson prompted Bunton to find a new opportunity, joining the Adelaide Lightning.

Alison Downie

WNBL Championships: (3) Dandenong Rangers 2004, 2005, 2012.

Bio: A staple at the Rangers since 2000, Downie has played all 279 of her WNBL games for Dandenong, winning three WNBL titles along the way. A truly selfless team player, the 29-year-old has become a vital piece of the puzzle under coach Mark Wright.

At 17 Downie was earmarked as a WNBL star, winning the 2002 Betty Watson WENBL Rookie of the Year, helping the team to win back-to-back WNBL titles in 2004 and 2005.

With significant roster change in the off-season players like Downie will be vital in providing the team with a stable veteran influence, with Downie’s ability to hit the glass and guard bigger opponents vital.

Amelia Todhunter

Bio: Todhunter made the most of her opportunities as a rookie at the Dandenong Rangers, playing 44 games in her first two seasons before injury restricted her to just three appearances in the 2009/10 campaign.

A move to Bulleen brought a WNBL Championship – the first in club history. After two years with the Boomers, Todhunter went in search of greater responsibility and found it at the Waves. The diminutive guard posted career high numbers in points, rebounds and minutes played.

Lauren Scherf

Bio: After watching on from the sidelines as a development player in season 2012/13, Scherf makes the step up to the main roster for the upcoming campaign, eager to carry her form on the international stage into the WNBL.

The talented Victorian has enjoyed a busy schedule over the past 18 months, representing Australia at the 2012 FIBA Under 17 World Championships before taking home gold at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival 3X3 tournament. These performances secured a place in the Australian Gems team that claimed bronze at the 2013 FIBA Under 19 World Championships.

Sara Blicavs

WNBL Championships: (1) Bendigo Spirit 2014.

Bio: It was in her final season at the AIS that Blicavs took the lead role as injuries decimated the young roster, averaging more than 12 points and 5 rebounds per game. This attracted interest from around the league, with the Melbourne junior signing with the Dandenong Rangers.

19 points in her first game for the Rangers saw the then 19-year-old quickly become a fan favourite and a key energy player off the bench. Blicavs played a leading role in the 2011 FIBA Under 19 World Championship and showed off her amazing athleticism in capturing bronze at the 2012 FIBA 3X3 Women’s World Championship.

Earning her first senior Opals call-up for the 2013 tour of China, Blicavs will be out to push for more senior selection with a strong season at the Bendigo Spirit enjoyed a successful first season in Central Victoria, helping the team win a second WNBL Championship.

Stephanie Cumming

WNBL Championships: (1) Dandenong Rangers 2012.

Bio: Bursting on to the scene as a 16-year-old with her local team the Dandenong Rangers, Cumming found herself on a scholarship to the AIS in 2007, where she would spend the next two seasons.

Consistent improvement from the sharp-shooting guard would result in selection for the 2009 FIBA Under 19 World Championship, with a return to the Rangers leading the way to her first Jayco Opals call-up in 2011.

This proved to be a launching pad for Cumming, who would go on to have a career best season in 2011/12, averaging a career-high 14 points and 4.3 rebounds as the Rangers claimed the WNBL Championship.

Another stellar season led to the opportunity to help the Emerging Opals win bronze at the 2013 World University Games. Now at the Townsville Fire, Cumming will be looking to add another title to her collection.

Tegan Cunningham

WNBL Championships: (1) Dandenong Rangers 2012.

Bio: The Melbourne junior moved to the USA in 2006, joining Seward County Community College in what would be a memorable two years in Kansas. Cunningham won multiple conference and tournament MVP awards and would leave the school as the all-time leading scorer.

The forward transfer to powerhouse program Oklahoma State University in 2008 and would complete two seasons at the mid-America school before returning to Australia and the WNBL in 2010.

It was a brilliant debut season by Cunningham, averaging more than 11 points and 5 rebounds for the Adelaide Lightning, prompting a move back to Victoria with the Dandenong Rangers.

A WNBL Championship followed, with Cunningham outstanding in the post-season averaging 14 points per game. After missing out on back-to-back titles, Cunningham makes the move north to Logan Thunder for the new campaign.

COACH’S COMMENTS: Tenaya is another Junior Rangers product returning to Dandenong following a year at the AIS. She is an athletic guard that has represented Australia at junior level and a current member of the Gems squad. Tenaya is looking to establish herself as part of the senior program and should gain invaluable experience from the likes of Kathleen, Steph & Jenna.
