Peter Buckle

Peter Buckle enters his third season as Head Coach for the Townsville McCafe Fire.  The team is coming off a successful 2008/09 season with a third place finish after being defeated by Bulleen in the Preliminary Finals, the equal highest ever finish of the Townsville team.  Townsville finished the regular season with 16 wins and 6 losses for the season and a home record 11 wins from 11 games.  Buckle has instilled a professional and high standard culture to the program, building his teams on disciplined, tough defense and uptempo offense.

Buckle has a long history in coaching.  Prior to coming to Townsville he spent six seasons as Assistant Coach to the Canberra Capitals program along with various State junior programs and ITC programs throughout Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales and the ACT.  He has also coached in the various ABA leagues for Ballarat, Mackay and Canberra.

Currently involved as Assistant Coach in the Opals Program, he helped the Opals to Gold at the 2009 FIBA Oceania Championship. In 2009 he coached the Australian Women’s University team to the Bronze medal at the World University Summer Games in Belgrade, Serbia.
