In the first encounter of the TiLite 2009 NWBL Finals, Perth Wheelcats used a second quarter blitz to set up a comfortable 99-76 win over the Wollongong Roller Hawks.
The TiLite 2009 Finals start this Friday, 11th September and it promises to be one of the tightest series in recent years.
All the facts on the finals are right here.
The Wheelcats are the 2009 Minor Premiers. They have won the past 3 championships. They are an incredibly talented and exciting team. However, the retirement of former captain Brad Ness increases their vulnerability.
The Hawks won their first and only NWBL championship in 2003. They have been hungry to repeat that success ever since, and last year were runners-up to Perth. They'll be under-strength this finals campaign but can't ever be written off.
The WheelKings are being talked about as the danger team of the finals. They have a combination of savvy veterans and enthusiastic youngsters who could win the lot if they put it together.
Like the Roller Hawks, the Razorbacks will be missing key players in the finals. Even so, they are still a high quality outfit that are capable of anything, especially if Troy Sachs is on his game.
