Game #2 versus Razorbacks - 7th June

th June, 2009

Bankstown Basketball Stadium is the place to be noon Sunday for this local derby. Both teams are missing key players and it will be the Razorbacks first game. There's no form guide on this one.

The Razorbacks are perennial finalists and are led by dual Paralympic gold medallist Troy Sachs. He will get great support from fellow Rollers gold medallist Grant Mizens and South African representative Nick Taylor. However, the team will be missing standout centre Darren Skuse (playing in Europe) and dynamic youngster John McPhail who is in camp at the AIS with the Australian u/23s along with their speedy guard Colin Smith. There's still plenty of talent in the rest of the squad but Sydney's depth will be tested.

As documented in the previous story, the WheelKings have plenty of players missing as well. It looks likely that Wenty will have former 1.0 point guard Chris Nicholls signed up for the game just to be able to put a team on court that fits under the 14 point limit. Without Bill Latham in particular, big games are expected from Koen Jansens, Jon Pollock, Jon Simon, Craig Cannane, Jeremy Van Asperen and Kylie Gauci, ie, everyone.

The WheelKings played well last week to take 2008 grand finalists Wollongong to overtime before losing narrowly 96-91. Sunday's game most likely won't be as high-scoring but it will definitely have the intensity born out of a cross-town rivalry going back 15 years. Don't miss this one!
