Bullets left spinning in first game of double-header

Saturday, 20th June, 2009

Wenty has whipped the Brisbane Spinning Bullets 133-45 at their home tonight. Bill Latham was sensational and Jon Pollock had his best game as a WheelKing.

Brisbane must have thought they were in the game after the first quarter as they trailed just 20-27. It was then that the WheelKings decided to switch into rampage mode as they blitzed the Bullets 34-4 in the second quarter. The game was simply over at half-time with Wenty leading 61-24.

The carnage continued with the WheelKings going up 97-35 at the end of the third and then leading by as many as 90 in the fourth period.

For Wenty, Bill Latham was outstanding with 45 points at 78% accuracy, 18 rebounds and 3 assists. Jon Pollock was terrific with 38 points at 50%, 13 assists and 5 rebounds. Jon Simon (20 pts, 6 rebs, 3 steals), Koen Jansens (18 pts, 12 rebs) and Kylie Gauci (8 pts, 4 rebs) also got amongst the stats. Craig Cannane got good minutes returning from injury and rookie Keegan Oh-Chee made his impact on the defensive end in 15 minutes of play.

Brisbane surprisingly used their British import Joe Bestwick for just 29 minutes and he was limited to 14 points by the WheelKings interior defence. Adam Bates (10) and Adrian King (8) were the only other Brisbane players to make a decent contribution on the scoreboard.

Tomorrow sees Game 2 of the double-header and hopefully Brisbane can be a little more competitive.
