WheelKings move to a 3-1 record

Sunday, 21st June, 2009

After last night's spanking of the Brisbane Spinning Bullets, the WheelKings expectedly cruised to a 100-55 victory in the second leg of the road double this morning.

In a similar scenario to last night's game, Wenty started slowly and had just a 20-16 lead at the end of the first period. They again cranked up the effort from thereon and led by a comfortable margin at the half, 46-24. The lead went to 72-40 after 3 quarters and Wenty kept up the pressure in the fourth for the 45 point win.

Everyone again played well for the WheelKings. Bill Latham led all scorers with 28 points to go with his 12 rebounds and 5 steals. Koen Jansens had 24 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Jon Pollock scored 20 and dished off 13 assists.

Craig Cannane contributed 12 points and 6 boards for his best outing of the season. Jon Simon continued to impress with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals as he goes for the WheelKings 'Good Hands' award. Kylie Gauci didn't get many opportunities at the scoring end but her screens and seals were invaluable in freeing up the big guys. In another noteworthy performance, young Keegan Oh-Chee scored his first NWBL points!

Wenty now has a 3-1 record which, depending on other results today, should put them in at least equal second place on the ladder. The league now goes into a 4 week break because most teams will be affected by player absences as Australia competes at the U/23 World Championships in France. Wenty's Bill Latham will spearhead the U/23s team and we'll keep you updated on his progress throughout the tournament.
