With a victory over the High Park Demons, the Grand River Gargoyles have guaranteed their spot in the 2014 OAFL finals. Their win puts them in 4th place at the end of round 10, but with two tough match ups to finish off the season, the Gargs will have to work hard to secure home field advantage and avoid potentially travelling to Ottawa for their first game of the playoffs.
Round 11 sees Grand River face the Broadview Hawks, currently sitting 3rd on the ladder, 4 points clear of the Gargs. The last game between these two sides was a cracking match, decided by a last minute goal for the Hawks which saw them win by 4 points in Scarborough. The Hawks have dropped a few games as of late due to the absence of some key aussies, but word has it that they are back and ready to make up lost ground.
Round 12 sees Grand River face the Central Blues in the last regular season game of the year. The Blues are currently ranked 5th on the ladder but will be looking for at least one win to secure a spot in the finals. The Gargs will be looking to make up for a close loss they suffered at the hands of the Blues in round 1. Both teams will be missing key starters due to the International Cup - this match up will be a true test of depth.
Despite the absence of coach Ben Roberts and starters Jacob Martin, Nate Millar, and Aiden McQuoid to the international cup, interim coach Tyson Dyer has been working hard to build the Gargoyles' momentum and keep their place on the ladder. Come over to Margaret Greene Park Saturday at 11am to cheer on the Gargs as they play their last home game of the regular season!
