Whatever you want to call it, this team had a chemistry unlike other Canterbury teams. With no standout champions they relied on talent spread across the list and a loyalty to each other that defies description. This is exemplified by the inclusion of 16-Canterbury based players in the squad for the national team to be selected to play in October against visiting Australian teams. But for some wayward shots on goal, the Cobras would have punished their opponents even more on the score board, being the only chink in the armor in almost flawless display. These guys played beyond their years, an amazing feat considering most had only played one season of AFL.
The team was excellently coached by David De Cuevas, assisted admirably by Matthew Lawson and managed to perfection by Alan Harding. Zac Williams, who could not play in the tournament because of recent knee surgery, sums up the team ethos. He attended every training session and ran himself ragged as the water boy for the tournament. This commitment rubbed off onto the players and made them a fierce unit to compete with.
Sheriff Harding took plenty of photos over the weekend, including the one shown here.
TOP EFFORT LADS!!!
