Wycheproof-Narraport v Boort
On home soil the Demons got off to a good start against the Magpies kicking the first two goals before the visitors were able to claw their way back and level things up mid-term when Welsh with two goals, getting on the end of some nice work from the Boort midfielders. Wycheproof-Narraport was again able to sneak away when Ricky Allan kicked two goals late in the quarter to give the Demons a handy two goal lead at quarter time.
Boort started the second term better and quickly reduced the Demons lead to just a couple of points. From this point both sides found it hard to convert for major scores and up to half time they had accumulated 17-points between them. The home side would go to the half time break with a slender one point lead but it was Boort who was showing the better signs for things to come for the second half.
In the third term Boort was able to kick out to take the lead and while the margin was not great it was the first time they had led for the game. Wycheproof-Narraport was trying everything to get a major score and it was Co-Coach Boe Bish who capped off some good work to bring up both flags. Boort went to the last change with a nine point lead and the Demons were still within touch of getting the points.
It was the Magpies who were first on the board in the final quarter and this would continue with the Boort side getting out to a lead of over four goals by half way through the final term. Ricky Allan reduced that lead when he kicked his fourth goal for the match, giving him 10-goals in the last two games. Welsh chimed in for another two goals for the Magpies and the lead was getting beyond the reach of the Demons. Boort posted their seventh goal for the quarter to take their lead out to over six goals, the Demons teamed well in the dying minutes to have Prestidge post their final goal of the game and at full time the Magpies had gained the four points with a 33-point win, this now has Boort sitting comfortably in fourth position two games clear of their nearest rival.

Wedderburn v Donald
In the opening quarter the Donald side gave there all to contain the Redbacks and they started the day in good fashion kicking the first goal and then matched it with the Redbacks for the majority of the quarter before dropping their guard in the last few minutes of the term to let the home side sneak a break to give them a thirteen point lead at the first change.
Thirteen points would be as close as the Royals would get to the reigning premiers as the Redbacks went on a goal kicking spree posting thirteen goals for the quarter, five of those coming off the boot of Sam Barnes. Wedderburn looked polished and gave a great display against their lesser experienced opposition. The Redbacks had some standout players gaining plenty of the Sherrin, Liam McCarty, Daniel Gash and Rohan McHugh being in the top bracket. Going into half time holding a lead of just under 100-points, the sign of things to come for the Royals was not looking to promising. In this term Wedderburn posted 15 unanswered goals before Cashin kicked the Royals first goal since the opening term just prior to the three quarter time siren.
In the final quarter the Redbacks again stamped their authority on the game kicking another nine goals but it should have been a much larger goal spree as they sprayed many easy opportunities resulting in eight points for term, Donald through Sexton and McAllister added a further two goals in this quarter which slightly reduced the Redbacks winning margin which ended up being 178-points.
Wedderburn has posted their second score of over thirty goals in their past three matches and are really setting their sights on maintaining their winning run, while the Royals who were missing some experienced players will be hoping their fortunes change in the coming weeks, but their run in the coming weeks doesn’t look to promising with third and second placed clubs in Charlton and St Arnaud being their next fixtured opposition.
Final scores: Wedderburn 34-18=222 def Donald 6-8=44
Best for Wedderburn: Liam McCarthy, Rohan McHugh, Sam Barnes, Daniel Gash, Andrew Brett and Jordan Hargreaves. Goals: Sam Barnes 10, Nathan Holt 5, Brady Herdman, Paul Prime 3, Rohan McHugh, Liam McCarthy, Jaran McKay, Ben DeAraugo 2 rest Singles.
Best for Donald: Luke Carr, Darby Harrison, Brody Haddow, Matt Gilmour, Daniel Pearce and Alex Sheridan. Goals: Billy Sexton 2, Reece Harberger, Adam Hall, Michael Cashin, Will McAllister 1 each.
St Arnaud v Charlton
St Arnaud got off to a better start than the Navy Blues from Charlton when they were able to kick some early goals and hold off the attacking moves from Charlton. Coghlan was on song for the Saints and he kicked two of the sides first goals with Needs posting their other first term goal which gave the Saints a nineteen point lead at the first break in play, Charlton were held goalless scoring just four points in the opening quarter.
Looking to pull back the Saints lead the Navy Blues were attacking the goals regularly but without much luck with minor scores being recorded. Berry added to the Saints lead when he kicked truly. Finally the Navy Blues were able to get a major score on the board adding to their high return of minor scores when Lawry goaled, this was followed by a goal to Aaron Walklate. From the bounce the Saints sent the ball forward where Needs marked and converted. Within a minute Patching added the Saints third goal for the term giving them a lead of 18-points at half time. Charlton who had plenty of the ball in the early part of the quarter were badly off target and kicked twelve points in the opening two terms, had the Navy Blues been able to convert, the deficit at half time may not have been and could have seen the Navy Blues in the reverse and leading at the main break.
Charlton were on a mission in the third term and were quick to post some major scoring with goals to Travis Baird, Lawry and McLean as they zoned in on the lead of the Saints. With Charlton closing in the Saints were fortunate enough to set up some positive scoring opportunities which Needs and Coghlan were able to convert to again take control of the game. As the clock ticked towards the last change the Navy Blues rallied with Judd and Lloyd registering late goals to put the visitors right back in the game now trailing by just three points with a quarter to go.
With the game up for grabs both sides were hard at the ball and Charlton were first to get on the board when they posted the first major score of the term. From here it was neck and neck with scoring opportunities, but inaccuracy was proving costly for the Navy Blues but they were holding on to a slender lead and restricting the Saints scoring opportunities. Charlton got a small break on the Saints and led by 15 points midway through the quarter and looking the better side although they had suffered some serious injuries, could they hold off the Saints as they were down to the bare number with no interchange players. The Saints pushed forward and reduced the margin, but time was running out quicker than they were reducing the Navy Blues lead, Needs marked and brought the game back to just a point favouring the visitors and the game looked gone as the time had almost expired, with one last play the ball went into the Saints forward line and Coghlan marked and his conversion put the Saints in front by five points right on siren time to give the Saints the win. Charlton were again off target in the final term kicking seven points to give then a tally of 24-points for the day. Bad kicking is bad football and it can prove to be costly and that is what it turned out to be for the Navy Blues costing them a win, had one of those 24 points being converted to a major score the result would have been reversed.
Final Score: St Arnaud 13-11=89 def Charlton 10-24=84
Best for St Arnaud: K. Dingo, N. Coghlan, J. McNamee, L. Cunningham, S. Dyke and R. Wild. Goals: N. Coghlan 6, D. Needs 4, J. Patching 2, L. Berry 1.
Best for Charlton: A. Walklate, B. Walklate, R. Thompson, A. McKenzie, A. Judd and M. Winsall. Goals: S. Lawry 3, A. Walklate, D. Lloyd 2, T. Baird, A. Judd, J. McLean 1 each.
