The Western Region Football League (WRFL) is pleased to announce that Diana Taylor has been appointed as President of the WRFL. Taylor was elected unopposed at the WRFL's Annual General Meeting on 26 November 2007.
Diana Taylor is the first woman to be appointed as President of the WRFL in its 77 year history. She moves into the role with a wide range of football experience and is a corporate lawyer for a global financial services company.
Prior to her appointment as President, Diana was the WRFL's Vice-President and has served on the Board since December 2004. She has also undertaken the roles of Tribunal Deputy Chairperson and was a Tribunal Member of the WRFL.
At the State level, Diana was appointed to the Victorian Football League's Appeal Board in 2004, and in 2005 was the first woman appointed to the Victorian Football League Tribunal where she continues to act as a Tribunal Member. More recently, Diana has been appointed to AFL Victoria's Development Advisory Board and launched the WRFL Women's Football Foundation, an organisation created to encourage and promote the role of women in Football.
Following the announcement, Diana was delighted with the appointment. "The WRFL is a major community sporting organisation which not only provides people with the opportunity to be involved in our great game, but also serves to strengthen community participation and enhance the health and wellbeing of everyone involved. I am grateful for the opportunity to guide the WRFL and its competition over the next 3 years and to represent the WRFL's interests in the western region of Melbourne."
