Tournament Rules

SHBA Junior Tournament Rules:

GENERAL RULES

1. All games are to commence at the advertised starting time
2. Stadium Scoring will be used during this tournament.
3. Teams must supply a competent scorer/timekeeper.
4. No team shall take the court with less than five players.
5. For each minute a team is late, their opponent will be awarded two (2) points, up to the ten minute mark, then the game is forfeited.
6. Teams must supply their own warm up balls and match ball.
7. Any protests, or disputes, must be referred to the Tournament Committee within one hour of the completed game. A fee of $50 must accompany the written submission.
8. Any player being reported, must report to the Referee's Supervisor at the venue, and then must appear before the Tournament Tribunal (any three members of the Tournament Committee) prior to their next scheduled game.
9. A size 6 ball shall be used for U12B, U14B & all girls. U16B, U18B, use size 7.
10. The U12’s shall use the short foul line.
11. The three point line will apply only to the U14, U16 & U18 competition
12. It is preferred that U12 and U14 teams play man to man defence (Basketball Australia Policy)
13. Except for the above, all games will be played under the current Basketball Victoria rules
14. Entries accepted on basis of first in - first accepted.
15. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to regrade teams where deemed necessary. Contact person will be notified of any change of grading.
16. The Swan Hill Junior Basketball Association denies any liability for any injury sustained by any person during the tournament.
17. The Committee's decision on any matter shall be final.
18. There will be no refund of fees if a team withdraws after the draw is completed. Any late withdrawal will incur a $100 fine.

UNIFORM

1. Each team shall nominate its uniform, including shorts, and players will not be permitted to take the court if not properly attired in such uniforms
2. Each team must have an alternative uniform top
N.B. The second named team on the draw will be required to change tops if there is a clash of colour.


POINTS

1. Game Points:

3- WIN
2 - DRAW
1 - LOSS
0 - BYE
0 - FORFEIT GIVEN
3 - FORFEIT RECEIVE


2. Drawn games will stand in all round games, but an extra five minutes played in semi finals and grand finals

3. All ladders are decided on points then percentage if all teams play each other
3. 3 way tie - Points then % or is still tied percentage against teams tied.
4. 2 way tie - decided by preliminary round head to head

TIMING REGULATIONS:

 

Preliminary and Semi-final games -
2 x 20 minute halves.
Two timeouts per half.
Clock does not stop in first half.
No timeouts in last 1 minute of first half.
Clock stops for all whistles in the last minute of the second half.

Grand Final: As per above except:

Clock stops for all whistles in the last minute of the first half.
Clock stops for all whistles in the last three minutes of the second half

Extra Time: Semis-finals and Grand Finals:

Extra five (5) minutes.

Clock stops for all whistles in the last minute and all time outs.
One time out per team per extra period.

Technical fouls and sin bin policy:

In line with Basketball Victoria Country Commission the SHBA implements the following policy in relation to Technical fouls.  

In all matches held during this tournament game referees are required too:

1. Instantly penalise any obvious forms of descent towards referee's or their call, or bad language with a Technical foul  and send Player/s or coaching staff to the sin bin (required to leave the court area for 5 minutes).

2. The player/coach can be substituted.

3. A second similiar offense results in disqualification and any offender is required to leave the stadium.


PLAYER ELIGIBILITY:
1. Players must play in two (2) preliminary round games to qualify for finals.
2. Any team that plays an ineligible player will be subject to a penalty, which will include forfeiting all matches in which player took part.
3. A player may only play for one (1) team during the tournament.

FIRST AID:
ALL TEAMS ARE TO SUPPLY OWN FIRST AID KIT.  First aid officer is availalbe only at the main stadium at the bottom of court two.
