Winter Season 2023
The Winter Season will commence on Monday, May 8th, 2023. We are switching to Basketball Connect as Basketball SA has a contract with them. We will no longer be using Sports TG. There will be a learning phase as we all get use to the application. The GSABA, the GSABA Clubs and Basketball SA is all learning, so there maybe hiccups in the initial stages. We will keep you informed as required.

The doors will be open from 7am and first Grand Finals start at 8am. Spectators Gold Coin Donation would be appreciated. Grand Finals all day. Presentations held in the Hindmarsh Room after each Grand Final. Special Needs Grand Final at 2.00pm. Men's Div 1 Final is last game at 6.00pm. GSABA Awards after the Men's Division 1 final. Helpers for pack up would be great

GSABA Winter Season 2022 Grand Final Day
We are setting up from 7am and the first games start at 8am with the Under 12 Girls and U12 Boys and finishes with Men's Division 1 Grand Final at 6pm. Gold Coin Donation on the day can be paid at the canteen. Hot Food is available. Trophy Presentations will be held in the Hindmarsh Room at the end of each Grand Final except for the Men's Division 1 Grand Final which will be held on Court 2.

GSABA Winter Season 2022 - Behavioural Technical Foul Policy
The GSABA has fallen into alignment with our peak body, Basketball SA and has introduced the Behavioural Technical Foul Policy. This means we will be consistent with the processes. There are declining numbers of referees in all sports and basketball is no different. Younger referees do not stay in the system due to disrespect and abuse, it will help provide a respectful and safe place.

GSABA Wins John Spooner Award 2022
Great Southern won the John Spooner Award for 2022 jointly with Eastern Hills. Congratulations to all involved with Slammers it was an excellent effort and is our third John Spooner Award. Congratulations and it is a credit to the work ethic and planning of the Slammers Committee, the Slammers Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Team Managers , Players and Parents, The HP Department need to be commended.

Slammers - Juniors U14/U18s State Country Championships 2022
Slammers had a great weekend with 3 teams making grand finals on the first week-end of the championships. Congratulations to the Under 18 Boys Division 1 , Under 14 Boys Division 1 and U14 Boys Division 4 who finished runners-up. The Under 18 Boys Division 1 and Under 14 Boys Division 1 were extremely unlucky both losing to Mildura by a point. The Under 14 Boys Division 4 lost by 18 points.

SA Country Senior Championships 2022 - Slammers Success
Great Southern entered Men's A, Men's B and Women's B teams. The Men's B team claimed the title and Women's B team were grand finalists, losing by 2 points. The Men's A team played well winning a couple of minor round games and bowed out in quarters. Congratulations to the Men's B team and to Marc Mullette who won the MVP in the Grand Final and Nick Whiterod who won the MVP of the Championship.

GSABA Under 10 Friday Trainings
The GSABA is offering U10's trainings on a Friday Nights on Court 2 at the Victor Harbor Stadium from 4.00pm to 5.00pm due to the success of the initial program. The program commences from 28th Feb and runs each week until 3rd Apr. This is an extra training on top of club trainings. This is the same type of training we were offering on Sundays. There is a $2 a session fee payable on the night.

GSABA Coach Selected for New Zealand Tour - Ryan Byrne
Congratulations to Ryan Byrne who was selected as a coach for Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup which is being held at the Mel Young Basketball Classic in Tauranga, New Zealand over Easter.
Ryan Byrne played and coached in the GSABA and at Slammers level for many years and is continuing to progress his basketball career by developing his skills and through hard work.

Southern Fleurieu Sport and Recreation Precinct Feasibility Study & Project
The City of Victor Harbor have been meeting the timelines set out in the original proposal and we are at the Feasibility Study & Preliminary Design Stage.
This stage was tendered out. Tredwell Management won the tender. Tredwell Management have a very sound knowledge of the project objectives as they were previous consultants and drafted the original Master Plan.

GSABA REFEREE DEPARTMENT, COACHES, PLAYERS, PARENTS, MEMBERS MEETING REMINDER
GSABA Management and the GSABA Referee Department has agreed to hold a meeting inviting all members. The Referee Department will outline the Umpire Directions, explain what coaches, players, scorers and spectators can do, outline rule interpretations, work on improved communications between players, coaches and umpires and gain feedback and have open healthy debate.

Under 10 Training Program
All Under 10 Boys and Girls players are invited to attend a training program focussing on fundamental skill development.
When: Sundays, Starting 27th October - December 8th 2019
Where: Encounter Lutheran College
Time: 3.00pm to 4.00pm
Cost: Free to all players registered with a GSABA Club.

Murray Bridge Carnival 2019
Great Southern Slammers attended the Murray Bridge Carnival over October Long weekend which was a great first up hit out for our association teams. Congratulations to all those players that were selected in the teams. Thanks to the Coaches, Team Managers and parents. Well done to all teams, congratulations to the Under 12 Boys Division 1 and Under 23 Boys teams who won Grand Finals.

GSABA Best and Fairest Voting Winter Season 2019
Please find the attachment of all the players who received votes in each competition. The umpires award votes in each game. 2 votes to the Best and Fairest player on court and 1 vote to the second Best and Fairest player on court.

GSABA Junior Clearances
Junior Clearances will be scrutinized by the GSABA Management and will not just be rubber stamped. A recent Presidents Meeting between the 5 presidents concerns were raised about "super teams" being created. It creates unevenness in competition, isn't ideal for player development, we want competitive games where good players play against each other testing their abilities and enhancing development

GSABA Slammers Junior Tryouts 2019 Times
The Slammers Try-outs will be held on Sunday June 23rd and June 30th at the Victor Harbor Stadium. The Try-outs are for Under 12, 14, 16 & 18 competitions.

GSABA Club Teams - Two Club Teams in a competition
Round 5 is the last chance for teams to sort their teams when they have two or more teams in a competition. Players playing for a team in Round 6 are aligned to that team under the By-Laws and for qualifying purposes.

GSABA Summer Season 2018-19 Grand Final Day
The GSABA Summer Season Grand Final Day is being held on April 8th 2019. U12 Games start at 8.30am and the final match of the day is the Men's Division 1 match at 6.30pm. Canteen facilities available with hot food. Gold coin donation from spectators will be appreciated.

GSABA - Playing Condition Infringements
PLAYING CONDITION INFRINGEMENTS
- All verbal Technical Fouls are playing conditions infringements are to recorded on the Player Infringement Form and will go towards the Player Condition Infringement Count. i.e Disrespectful communication to the any official of the game, baiting and taunting an opponent and language that can incite spectators.

GSABA - Encounter Bay Recreational Land Facility - Jan 2019 Update
The Encounter Bay Working Party which includes the GSABA met on the Gillespie Land Site with Councillor Brayden Mann, City of Victor Harbor's Brian Doman and ORS Star Club Officer Jeremy Bell on Monday 21.01.2019. We were shown where they expect the Basketball Stadium and Athletics field to be placed. The area is relatively flat and is a decent sized area. Soil testing is being organised shortly.

The U12 and U16 SACBC Junior Country Championships are being held on March 23rd and 24th.
