Platinum League Award for SA Country stalwart

Among thos awarded on the night were;

Samantha Roberts from Mt Barker Assoc received ‘Most Improved’ Referee in the Junior District competition.

Ean Turner and Mark Ryan were inducted into the Basketball Officials SA ‘Platinum League’. This league is the highest honour in SA and is essential the South Australian Basketball Officials ‘Hall of Fame’

Ean Turner was inducted posthumously having died approximately 10 years ago.  Long time friend and international SA referee Geoff Weeks read a short snapshot of Eans career and contribution to basketball in SA.  The award was accepted by his wife Lyn.

Bert Bargeus – SA Country president and BSA commission member presented Mark with his award and this was shared with his family who were present on the night.

Mark began playing basketball at 10 years of age and first became involved with SA Country in 1978. Mark played, coached and officiated in Naracoorte from 1980-1992 and first attended Country Cup in 1993.

Mark identified an opportunity to develop young officials and has completed level 1 & 2 evaluators course and attended eleven Country Cups.

Mark Joined SACOA in 1997 and commenced also working with Metropolitan officials in 2006.
