U15
Hay Ultima
Q1 10 5
Q2 16 19
Q3 24 31
Final 35 43
Hay started well and was able to settle into their game a lot quicker then Ultima. The wind was favouring the football ground end and they made the most of this during the first quarter. The second quarter saw Ultima make a huge turn around and out score Hay 14 to 6 thus paving the way towards their eventual win. Best players; Laura Zambon, Hay and Best on court Beth Oliver Ultima.
U17
Hay Ultima
Q1 13 9
Q2 21 22
Q3 31 28
Final 41 40
One of the games of the day. The entire match was played to a high standard as we have come to expect from these two clubs all year. It was fought out right to the end and the result really was up for grabs until the final whistle. The umpires had difficulty choosing the best on court but it was rewarded to Tori Oliver from Hay. Best for Ultima Sarah Kiel.
B Reserve
Murrabit Quambatook
Q1 11 8
Q2 22 19
Q3 35 28
Final 44 35
Murrabit played a consistent game but were never comfortably across the line until the end. Quambatook to their credit kept coming back but couldn’t find that little bit extra to get in front. The only team to come from fourth they were extremely pleased with their effort. Murrabit went through the season undefeated a huge achievement.
Best on court Jo Yard, Murrabit. Best for Quambatook Julie Cummins.
B Grade
Murrabit Hay
Q1 11 12
Q2 23 23
Q3 33 32
Final 45 46
What a final. Both teams were determined to go home with the Premiership and were neck and neck all match. The crowd were on the edges of their seats willing their club over the line. Most of the last quarter it was goal for goal with everyone waiting for that one lost opportunity to change the game. It never came. The game was literally won or maybe it could be said lost, in the last seconds of the match. Hay were one goal up and Murrabit had the ball in their goal circle setting up to score but took just that second too long and the whistle went to end the season. Best on court Ellie Jamieson, Hay. Sarah Perry best for Murrabit.

Ultima Murrabit
Q1 10 8
Q2 26 22
Q3 39 28
Final 49 40
The final show down. A much anticipated match up. These two teams were the bench marks all season with Murrabit having it over Ultima all season but not in the finals. Goalies for both teams were extremely accurate. The Fuller girls’, Steph and Zoe, had the ability to read each other and work together and it was really unbeatable in the end. The third quarter saw Ultima shoot 13 to 6 which set them up for the last run home. Ashea Dwyer controlled the centre court with the Murrabit Wings, but it wasn’t quite enough for Murrabit. The Ultima defences were strong and the difference between the teams. Best on court Rebecca Grey. Best for Murrabit Olivia Lipp.

In the Juniors Ultima and Hay have been developing a nice little rivalry over the past few seasons and they will contest both grades to complete this years chapter. The 15&Under teams ended one all in their home and away encounters. Ultima however were two games clear on the ladder after Hay had an inconsistent second half of the year. Sophie Stephens has been good in the finals for Hay following a season that saw her equal league Best & Fairest. Ultima was hungrier for the ball the last time they played and will need to bring the same intensity this week to get them over the line.
In the 17& Under the Hay girls were undefeated all year but in a thrilling second semi Ultima were able to get up by two goals. Both these teams have plenty of finals experience and have been evenly matched all season. Tayla Anderson along side Sarah Kiel for Ultima and Tori Oliver with Tui Wells for Hay will all be key players. The defenders for both teams will be pivotal in the outcome. The result will come down to who is more focused and determined on the day and any lapses in concentration could be crucial.
Every grade except the B Reserve has seen the top two ladder leaders now competing in the Grand Final. Quambatook finished fourth overall and now find with their delicate mixture of experience and youth they will be competing to take out this year’s competition. Their strongest players have been Brooke Quigley in goals and Julie Cummins with her high work rate in defence. But let’s not get too carried away. Their opposition will be Murrabit, a team with plenty of finals experience and who have gone through the year without a loss. Heather Laursen has been a consistent contributor in the mid court and they will be tough to beat.
After a convincing win last week Hay will meet Murrabit in this week’s B Grade grand final. While Murrabit haven’t been beaten all year Hay have the potential to cause an upset. The last time they played in the semi final it ended in a win to Murrabit. Hay did have their opportunities during the second half of that game but couldn’t quite capitalize on it then. If they can keep the momentum going this week anything could happen. Jane Weymouth and Sonia Woods for Hay have had a great finals series and will be urging their girls to keep the pressure on for the whole game. Murrabit is very even all over the court and the goalies are steady in the ring. Sarah Perry was best on court in the second semi and will be looking to repeat her good form as will Danielle Millard runners-up in the league best & fairest. It should be a hard, competitive game of netball and whoever wants it the most will win.
Well as they say, leave the best for last! A Grade should provide us with a very highly skilled contest which could go either way. Murrabit’s undefeated season came to an end in the second semi final a couple of weeks ago with Ultima getting across the line by four goals. This then saw Murrabit fight out a tough match against Nullawil in the preliminary final at Hay last week. Obviously the team to beat all year they strongly deserved their position in the Grand Final. Ultima with their entry straight through will be fully fit and ready to go after the weeks break. With young gun Tayla Anderson showing us in the second semi final she can match it with Murrabit’s ever reliable centre Ashea Dwyer the centre court is up for grabs. Ultima’s defenders worked tirelessly in their last meeting being well led by the league best and fairest runners up in Sarah O’Meara. Last match Zoe Fuller in goals proved to be too tall and strong for veteran Jenny Nethercote. On the other hand Murrabit’s speedy forward line which consists of Olivia Lipp, Lauren Morrow & Ashlea Cathie will be out to show why they were undefeated for the season. They are a very quick unit, and on a good day are unstoppable! Both Murrabit and Ultima goalies are very accurate and it will come down to who plays their own game and doesn’t crack under pressure. This is the contest we have waited for all season and it will not disappoint. It is too close to predict a winner and will be a great show case of our leagues talented netballers. Good luck to all clubs participating in the Grand Final

After a very successful finals series in the Golden Rivers Netball League the Grand Final at Ultima on Saturday is set to be a much anticipated spectacle for the crowds.
Welcome to the 2011 Golden Rivers Netball Season. With our season getting under-way on the 2nd of April we would like to thank those returning from the previous year for their ongoing support and extend our welcome to the new faces within our League. We appreciate your participation in whatever capacity you choose to undertake.
The number of netball teams available to play in each grade is positive. At this point in time there are 9 A-grade, Under 15’s and possibly F-Troop teams, 8 B-grade and Under 17’s and 7 definite B Reserve teams. This is great as we want as many girls as possible playing netball on a Saturday.
Some teams have expressed concerns over umpire numbers so could we encourage people to put up their hand and give it a go!
We look forward to seeing the new uniforms of Quambatook and Ultima as they take the courts.
Due to the concerns for travel raised at the League Meeting in regards to the January Floods the following Vicroads website provides up-to-date road closures. mobiletraffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au/floodalerts.
The Committee would like to wish all Clubs, Coaches, Players, Umpires and families the best for the coming season.

As you can see we are short Under 13 girls, 3 girls is all we need so if you know of anyone please ring me ASAP.
We are having a run next sat morning at Murrabit at 10.00, I know its Easter but we play the week after.
Thanks to Angela Hird who is organising tops for the girls and was handing out dresses and jumpers today.
We need a team manager for each grade, it can be a parent to help out with the draw on the day and in general keep the girls together.
Could all club delegates pass this info to the club members so they know what is going on.
I am now pleased to be able to enter Golden Rivers in the tournaments.

GRNL Interleague efforts at the Bendigo netball tournament.
Last Sunday we had our first netball tournament in Bendigo and a great day was held by everyone in perfect netball conditions.
The under 13 team consisted of Georgia Sheahan, Nicole Parker, Eboni Boyd, Emily Wishart, Jasmine Morris, Lily Bevan, Morgan Keating, Mary Yates Ward and Tayla Williams. Of the 6 games played, we lost 2, drew 1 and won 3, it was a great effort by all girls, these girls did extremely well as it was the first time they had all played together. Emily, Nicole and Mary were our shooters and they goaled beautifully, Emily's height was an added bonus down the midcourt. Georgia, Jasmine, Tayla and Morgan were the centre court players and all proved that size does not matter as they all intercepted and were the cause of many turnovers. The defence end was held together by Ebony and Lily and they certainly troubled their opponents with their long arms.
The under 15 team consisted of Rochelle Shannon, Gracie Gillingham, Jacqui Nolan, Tamara Cummins, Amber Angel, Erica Quinn, Emily Kelly, Meg Fawcett, Erin Hird and Annee Hinton.
There was also an under 17 team which comprised of a few under 15 girls that volunteered to help out which was much appreciated. The team was as follows, Ebony Dorrington, Emily Sinclair, Rebecca Garner, Emily Munro, Georgie Stephens, Carmel Harvey, Tamara Shepherd, Rhianna Shepherd, Rachel Pask and Penny Munro, these girls were beaten on the day but all enjoyed their day.
There will not be any training this week, but we will all be looking forward to our next tournament in Echuca on Sunday 15th May at the Echuca Netball Complex, High Street Echuca. If all girls can be there by 8.45 am ready to start at 9.00 am.
A big thank you to the coaches, scorers, umpires and all the parents for all your support.
If there are any problems please do not hesitate to contact me.
