After weeks of planning and days of preparation the Volunteers End of Season Par-taay was finally upon us !
Without our Volunteers we would not have a viable organisation and they turn up week in week out in all weathers, sometimes at short notice to give people less fortunate a lovely experience on the water. We are very grateful that they choose to spend some of their free time with us - THANK YOU !
We were blessed with fantastic weather - clear, dry and not too cool which enabled us the be outside for most of it. The views from the club are amazing and the reflections on the water on still nights are fantastic. Some people had half an eye on the football as the Eagles were playing at Optus Stadium but we were impressed they chose the party over a footy game.
There was a red carpet, up-lit Hansa 303's dinghy's, good music, delicious food, the odd drink of soda-pop, a hum of good conversation and a lot of banter.
Friends (Chris, Joy and Brad) and some of the Committee (and Volunteers Peter and Garth ) helped with the preparation, cooking and breakdown/clear up and a great bid of thanks goes to all of them.
We had Volunteers, some of the Committee, people who support us 'in kind', three of our elite sailors (Genevive and Rob head to Spain to compete in July and Kylie heads off to compete in Canada in September) the Australian Para Sailing Coach (Grant) and other coaches (Jamie and Nickie) who have helped our elite sailors get to where they are today. A great mix of ages and backgrounds mingled happily.
On the night we made a few presentations :
The Riccardo Jansen Memorial Trophy for the most improved Sailabilty Sailor which this year went to Rob Crofts. He was delighted and surprised.
We also presented some Act Belong Commit goodie bags to Rob and Genevieve who were heading off to Spain to compete and some Act Belong shirts to Grant and Jamie (coaches) who were travelling with Rob and Genevieve.
Others mentioned in dispatches were Nigel Simpson who helped us ready our fleet of Hansa 303s ready for the National Championships in Bunbury over Easter; Graeme Martin who helped transport the boats over the Easter weekend to Bunbury and back; Riley Nail a young Uni student who is kind, considerate, and always ready to help; Steve Murray who helps with the IT support; Brett Lord who helps with signage; Hunter Gilles who helps with the audible buoys and Will Hammond from Doyles sails. And to the Dinghy division for sharing the kitchen and outdoor space with Sailability.
BIG THANKS as well to our wonderful food sponsors - Weirs Butchers Nedlands; IGA Shenton Park; Woolworths Subiaco Square; Coles Claremont Quarter and Lawleys Shenton Park.
