A plan is in place for junior football competitions to commence in Tasmania from the weekend of the 18th-19th of July 2020, subject to State Government approval.
The Southern Tasmania Junior Football League (STJFL), Northern Tasmania Junior Football Association (NTJFA) and North West Football League (NWFL) Juniors will all be commencing rosters from mid-July, pending State Government approval. The proposed season will take place from July and can be rostered into October, with all three junior associations to begin creating fixtures with clubs and key stakeholders over the coming weeks.
Junior teams have returned to small group training across the state in recent weeks and will soon transition to group training of up to 20, in preparation for the season. AFL Tasmania CEO Trisha Squires said parents and players can gear up and get ready for a season.
“We are really confident that we will be playing Junior football in 2020. This is a great result and really important for the thousands of young boys and girls that play footy across our state.
“It is subject to Government advice but we are planning for a season to take place from mid-July.”
STJFL President Jim Horne said excitement is building in the south.
“Teams have been returning to training and the feedback is that players and coaches are loving being back out there.
“It is really exciting – it won’t be long until boys and girls are back playing our great game again on ovals right across Hobart.”
“It is fantastic for the kids in Tasmania that will be able to play the game they love, this year. We will be playing a football season, unless of course State Government restrictions don’t allow us to.”
