ALTONA FOOTBALL CLUB
Improvement is the catch-cry down at Grant Reserve this season as Altona look to build on its efforts from 2014.
With good numbers on the track over the summer months, coach Josh Russo says his squad are itching to apply the grind of pre-season training into match day when they come up against Werribee Districts in Round 1.
Teams fielding in 2015:
Seniors, Reserves and Under 18’s
How has the pre-season been?
The team have been working really hard over the pre-season in an attempt to improve on last year. All newcomers have settled in and are having a positive impact on the playing group. Numbers have been really good and there is a great feeling around the group. The excitement is really building towards the beginning of the season, everybody loves the opportunity to transfer the grind of training into actually playing games.
Who are some of the noteworthy signings for 2015?
This year we’ve added Cameron D’Altera (Port Colts) and resigned a number of former players who departed on overseas travels last year. There has also been the recruitment of a number of younger players from both the Junior Club and other local teams with an eye on the future.
What are your expectations for the new season?
Every team at this stage of the year is preparing and hoping to play finals. We are no different and hopefully the hard work and fine tuning of the game plan along with a couple of new and returning players will put us in a position where we can improve on last year’s position. Playing finals is our goal.
Who are some of the young up and coming players to look out for this year?
After the 2014 season saw so many young players given an opportunity to play senior football, there could be a number of players that could be listed here. Players Daniel O’Leary, Jack Marlais and Kelly Pickard are three of many that Altona hope continue to play consistently good senior football.
Have you had any staff/coaching and manager changes?
Jayden Post and Wayne Taylor have been added to the Senior Coaching staff for the 2015 season along with Ian Fox as the Reserves Coach. They will join Josh Russo (Senior Coach) and John Szanyi (Under 18’s). The new additions have fitted in perfectly all brining great ideas and a wealth of knowledge. Altona is very happy with the coaching staff that has been assembled for the 2015 season.
2015 Captain:
