ALTONA has jumped up to second place on the ladder after its demolishing of Wyndhamvale on Saturday.
Adam Magnabosco led the way for the Vikings booting seven majors, Nathan Wapshott adding four in the 24.20 (164) to 1.0. (6) win.
Both Magnabosco and Wapshott were able to kick more goals each than the entire Falcons side, showing just how dominant Altona was on the day.
The 158-point win gives the Vikings a great percentage boost, as the side now sits just a game behind the first-placed Hoppers Crossing.
Altona will next face Sunshine at home while Wyndhamvale hosts Deer Park.
Todd Caulfield’s six goals and best-on-ground performance helped his Hoppers Crossing side to a 94-point thumping of Albion.
The Warriors were the stronger side all day, initially jumping out to a 23-point lead at the first quarter break.
Hoppers held its lead at each break, and only Mathew Serafin’s four goals for Albion helped the margin from jumping out any further.
If the Warriors can maintain its high level of play, such as having 10 individual goal kickers as it did against the Cats, they should enter the finals as premiership favourites.
Hoppers Crossing will next host fellow top-four side Werribee Districts, meanwhile Albion will look to get its season back on track against Spotswood.
The Districts will enter its clash against the Warriors in great form after defeating St. Albans 15.16. (106) to 9.4. (58).
The home side started strongly, having eight scoring shots to three, but inaccurate kicking meant that its lead at the first break was just 10-points.
Both teams kicked three goals in the second quarter, as Werribee could only extend its lead to 13-points going into half time.
Four goals to three in the third term from the Districts saw its lead grow to 22-points heading into the final quarter.
Werribee was able to kick away in the last term, booting five goals to one and holding the Saints to just seven total points.
The loss condemns St. Albans to sixth place ahead of its bye in this weekend’s round.
Sunshine sits a game ahead of the chasing pack in fourth place after its 32-point win over Spotswood.
Seven goals to two over the second and third quarters was the difference for the Kangaroos as the Woodsmen could only manage to boot two goals in the same period.
Both sides kicked just a goal each in the final term as Sunshine ran out 11.5. (71) to 5.8. (38) victors.
