There was an unusual sea of pink at the Bayside Oval yesterday as the Williamstown Juniors FC U13 team pinked-up for Breast Cancer awareness.
Players, coaching staff and parents of the Williamstown Football Club Under 13 age group took part in a Pink Sports Day during their round 5 games last Sunday.
The players wore pink socks and ran through a specially prepared pink banner, which all the mum’s gathered around before the game.
“Everyone came together, pinked-up and got behind the teams as they played for a great cause, helping to raise awareness and vital funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA),” Under 13A Team Manager, Marita Ryan, said.
“One of our lovely families has recently been affected by breast cancer so it’s personal for our group and everyone wanted to throw as much support as they could behind the day."
BCNA CEO, Christine Nolan said the Pink Sports Day was a chance for sporting communities to raise awareness and support for local women affected by breast cancer.
“More than 15,000 women in Australia are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
“These women – mothers, wives, daughters, sisters and friends – need to know that they are supported,” Nolan said.
By taking part in the Pink Sports Day, the Williamstown Juniors Football Club is helping to ensure their local women know that they are not alone in their breast cancer journey, whilst also raising awareness of the support services available.
One of the families also generously donated a Pink WJFC Jumper to the Club to raffle with 100% of the raised funds donated to BCNA.
The team also managed to play a fantastic game of footy on the day too notching up their fifth straight win of the season.
BCNA works to ensure that Australians affected by breast cancer receive the very best support, information, treatment and care appropriate to their needs.
