THE Countdown to the start of the WRFL season has officially begun. Today we profile the Point Cook Football Club.
The WRFL spoke to Point Cook’s junior administrator Jason Ware about the 2016 season.
How has the pre-season been?
Most teams have now commenced pre-season and we are excited about the number of new faces/families coming through the Under-9s and 10s age groups. Registration numbers for these age groups are also significantly up on this time last year.
We will be rolling out our new junior playing strip in more age groups this season. Our Under-9s and Under-10 teams wore the new strip last year, receiving positive feedback from our players and families.
What are your expectations for this season?
Our expectations as a club are for another successful season, building on a strong 2015. Last year we had seven teams play finals, the most since our club commenced. This included three teams making the grand final. We are hoping to go one better in a few grades this year.
Any staff/coaching or manager changes at your club?
The club has restructured the junior coaching program with Peter Gardner and Mark King taking on co-ordination roles. We have made a number of key appointments across all age groups. In particular, Tom Madigan (Under-17’s), David Leatch (Under-17’s) and Ben Williams (Under-15’s) who we believe will play a key role in the development of our older junior age groups in terms of transitioning and preparation for Senior Football.
We welcome back our returning coaches from 2015 and wish our new coaches all the best on their coaching journey at Point Cook.
Approximately, how many teams will you be fielding this year?
We will be fielding approximately 16 junior sides in 2016, a record for our club. Ranging from Under-8s through to Under-17s, as well as our Youth Girls team.
