BRETT MILLER- 500th GAME
By Eleanor Vivoda
At almost 37-years of age most players would have either hung up their boots or headed to
Super Rules.
But, every now and again you come across a player who is still giving his all for his teammates and club.
At Altona we have such a player in Brett Miller, who has been donning the purple and gold since his junior days in the U16s.
Progressing to the senior ranks at age 17 where he gained his nickname of ‘Stinky Miller’, Brett has been part of some amazing club milestones over the years, including the 2004 and 2005 Division Two Premierships and in the club’s Reserves Premierships in 2012 and 2013.
Brett is not one for all the hype and notoriety, he just wants to play footy. But, this weekend we are proud to celebrate Brett’s 500th game with the mighty Vikings when he comes up against St.Albans.
This is an amazing milestone for any player and the club is proud to have Brett amongst its ranks.
His talent on the footy field is not only noticed within the club, but has also been recognised throughout the WRFL, having won three consecutive Division One league Best and Fairests from 2012-2014, a feat which has never happened in league history.
The Altona Football Club are very proud to have Brett as one of their stalwarts of the club and wish him all the best for this milestone game and the rest of 2015.
JAMIE COWLISHAW- 200th GAME
By Peter Van Hulst
This week sees a significant milestone for the Falcons as Jamie “Cottees” Cowlishaw plays his 200th senior game with the Vales – the first Falcon’s player to achieve the milestone.
After playing in the Wyndhamvale U11s in 1992, Jamie stopped playing football for a few years before recommencing in 1999 when he played for the Falcon’s U18s. He then got his taste in the senior ranks in 2000 missing just two seasons over the next 15 years.
Small in stature but big in heart, “Cottees” has played in all positions in the green and gold apart from the ruck, spending the vast majority of matches as a small forward or in the midfield.
Jamie has also collected his fair share of accolades along the way including the 2002 Coaches Award, 2005 & 2010 Reserve club B&F, 2014 Reserves premiership and was also the Senior Assistant Coach from 2011 to 2013.
“I have enjoyed playing seniors at the Wyndhamvale football Club over the past 15 years, I have met a lot of great people,” Cowlishaw said.
MATHEW RYAN- 350th GAME
The WRFL would also like to congratulate Hoppers Crossing captain Mathew Ryan on reaching his 350th game milestone this Saturday when he runs out against Albion.
Mathew was co-captain of the WRFL senior interleague squad this season and has kicked over 130 career goals.
