AFL Mackay have inducted their 19th life member at the 2015 MJ Miller Medal vote count.
Long time Umpire and AFL Mackay stalwart Simon Henderson was awarded the honour in front of a packed house at Harrup Park. The former South Australian moved to Mackay in the year 2000 and made an immediate impact joining the Umpiring ranks.
In his second year, Simon took on the role of the AFL Mackay Umpire Manager, one of the toughest yet rewarding tasks in community football.
Simon was appointed to his first senior Grand-Final as a field Umpire in the 2004 when the Whitsunday Sea Eagles defeated the Mackay City Hawks. Simon has now Umpired numerous AFL Mackay deciders along with representative clashes between Mackay, Rockhampton and Townsville.
Simon went on to hold such positions as Umpires Advisor, Junior Development Officer, Umpires Coach, Mentor and Manager. With over 10 years of service across numerous roles to Australian Football, Simon Henderson is a deserving receipent of the prestigious Life Membership.
