12 Girls Gladesville Sharks power over Camden Tigers

Gladesville Sharks were deserved winners of the PUMA Champion of Champions 12 Girls Grand Final, recording a comfortable 3-0 win over Camden Tigers at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday morning.

Gladesville started brightly, winning an early corner and threatening down either flank through Matilda Andrews and Amelia Dixon. Georgia Andrianakos was a constant danger as she drifted in front of the Camden defence, but it was Harriet Johnson who opened the scoring midway through the first half with a low drive which skipped past the goalkeeper and inside the far post to bounce into the goal.

Gladesville refused to settle with a one-goal lead and instantly went hunting for a second. Dixon very nearly played in Isabel McKeough with a beautiful slide-rule pass but a Camden defender came across well to clean up. The half ended with Gladesville looking good for their lead, and Camden perhaps thankful for the referee’s whistle after a trying 25 minutes for their defenders.

Still, Gladesville picked up where they had left off after the break, and Andrianakos soon had her goal; chasing down a loose ball at the top of the box and rounding the goalkeeper to roll her shot into an empty net.

Having been on the back foot for the best part of the match, Camden began to push forward in the closing stages of the second half, but Bianca Noble and Emily Tait were never quite able to stick the final pass after promising play in the build-up.

Despite easing up in the last few minutes, it was little surprise when Gladesville had the final say of the match with a late goal from Jasmine Chaseling, who slammed home from close range to seal a well-earned win for her side. The referee brought the match to a close soon after; Gladesville’s attacking superiority obvious in the final score line.

18 Women Classy Clark double seals Gladesville Ravens victory

Gladesville Ravens eased to a 2-0 win over Narellan Rangers in their PUMA Champion of Champions 18 Women Grand Final on Sunday morning at Valentine Sports Park, with two spectacular goals from Alice Clark either side of halftime proving the difference.

Jessica Bonnici and Matea Farkas exchanged shots early on before Gladesville settled into possession, leaving their opponents chasing shadows for long stretches of the match. Lara Halmarick held off Layne Ferguson well to squeeze off a shot at the top of the box, sending the ball crashing off the crossbar and bouncing away from danger as Gladesville began to pile pressure on the Narellan backline.

Halmarick proved a constant threat, peppering Jessica Delaney in the Narellan goal with a number of shots from range. Up the other end, Farkas slipped a shot of her own just wide of the post, but Gladesville were undoubtedly in the ascendancy.

Indeed, it was little surprise that the first goal of the game was scored by a Gladesville player: Alice Clark swung a boot at a ball running loose across the top of the box, curling her shot inside the top right corner to give her side a thoroughly deserved lead at halftime.

Gladesville picked up in the second half where they’d left off in the first, and Halmarick soon had another chance to double her side’s lead when she pushed through a crowded penalty box and fired off a shot which was deflected off-target.

Standing tall in the Narellan goal, Delaney pushed away a shot from Boccini to keep the score at 1-0 but she could do little to stop Clark from doubling her tally with a second strike from range that looped over the goalkeeper and settled in the back of the net.

Jessica Russo and Boccini both had chances to extend the Gladesville lead to three goals in quick succession, but Delaney made a series of saves to keep Narellen in the game. Charlotte O’Flynn and Chelsea Byrne worked hard as the Rangers looked to drag themselves back into contention, but the forward pressure from their opponents was incessant, and Narellen could only thank their goalkeeper for keeping the score line at 2-0.

The field seemed to stretch as both teams tired, and while Halmarick and Boccini might have finished the match with a hat-trick apiece, Gladesville would surely be content with the two goals that they did score past a keeper on top of her game.

21 Women Epping FC thump Thirroul JFC

In perhaps the most dominant performance of the PUMA Champion of Champions competition, Epping FC blew away Thirroul JFC with a 20-minute hat-trick from Mia Axe that highlighted their 9-0 hammering of their opponents at Valentine Sports Park.

It was a replay of last season’s final where Epping FC won 4-0.

Mia Axe was the star of the first half, as the striker racked up a hat-trick in 20 minutes to stamp Epping FC’s authority on the contest from the opening whistle.

She cut the Thirroul JFC defense to ribbons in only the fourth minute for her first before she combined well with her fellow player to fire in her second. Her third was a full display of the speed that Axe possessed as she burst into the box and made it 3-nil.

Once the floodgates had opened, Epping FC were ruthless in their attack. Sami Farquhar added a delightful chipped effort for the fourth then Katherine Du sped down the left to square it for Kathryn Ramsay for a five-star first half.

Five might be enough for some but Epping FC smelt blood and made it six deep in injury time of the first half. Who else but Axe went for finesse for her fourth of the contest as she slid an effort underneath Thirroul keeper Matilda Davis-Raiss for 6-0.

Going into the second half, it was one-way traffic once again. Hard working midfielder Jasmine Boudib added herself to the honour roll with a stinging shot that Davis-Raiss couldn’t handle for the seventh goal of the game.

Axe added her fifth in the 62^nd minute to complete a virtuoso performance then a late penalty rounded out the thrashing in the 74^th minute, as the scoreline read 9-nil, and a well-deserved title for Epping FC.
