Saturday sees the start of the Speed Field Days Mallee Football League with most sides having recruited well; it will be interesting to see how these new recruits line up with their respective clubs.
On Saturday, last years premiers Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers, will unfurled their premiership flag before their match against neighbours, Woomelang Lascelles. The Tigers have lost a number of their premiership players but they have recruited quite well and they hope that these new recruits will fill the positions. The Tigers won the recent Swan Hill Night Premiership and they will be looking to continue their winning run. Woomelang Lascelles has been on a recruiting drive and have signed a number of new players. It will be interesting to see how this Club will line up. The clash between the Tigers and Cats is always a tough battle and when these two sides meet, on past form, expect the Tigers to win.
Hopetoun are at home to Beulah and another good game is expected. Beulah has a new coach in Scott Smith while Leigh Hutchinson takes the reins at Hopetoun. Hopetoun have lost a number of young players but have recruited some handy replacements in Clint and Marcus Burdett. Beulah have lost a few players but they have recruited well, with some former players coming back to the club. Beulah look set for a very competitive season. Saturday’s clash will be a good test for both clubs. Hopetoun will be keen to do well in this game, but Beulah, with strength around the ground and should come away with the win.
Ouyen United are at home to Walpeup Underbool and again expect a good clash. Ouyen United have a new coach in Ryan O’Callaghan while Tansley Hill takes on the coaching roll at Walpeup Underbool. Ouyen United have Robert “Sonny” Lindsey back in their forward line and with Ash Connick as their other named recruit they should be a force to reckon with. Walpeup Underbool has two new recruits, Greg Althouse and Nathan Jones-Cubillo, from the Northern Territory and it will be interesting to see how adapt to the Mallee conditions. Based on last years form this should be a good battle with perhaps Ouyen United getting up to win.
