Avoca v Maldon - Bulldogs and Bombers clash on Sunday at Hedges Oval
A change in the fixture has resulted in the clash between Avoca and Maldon being shifted to Hedges Oval this Sunday.
After a strong start to the season, Avoca has been brought back to earth with two thrashings at the hands of Navarre and Carisbrook and will be eager to get back on the winning list. In fairness the Bulldogs have had a number of injuries to key players which have hamstrung the Bulldogs, but will be hoping to take the field against the Bombers with a full quota on Sunday.
Key forward Murray Bond and utility Nick Barker will be facing fitness tests, as will Alec Wiltshire who was a late withdrawal against the Redbacks.
Maldon is sitting in fifth position on the ladder with a three and one record to date this season, and as a result of their season record will go into the match as favourites to add to their win tally, but a four quarter effort will be required as the Bombers faded in the final term in their recent match with Royal Park.
Hayden Kelly has been in great form this season and has been the driving force through the middle, so the battle between Kelly and Avoca’s Lachlan Edwards could provide the key to the match. The Bombers have had the upper hand over Avoca in recent years and should continue to maintain their winning form, particularly if the Bulldogs list of injured players are not fit and firing.

Talbot v Trentham
The Hawks are another team on the rise which is evident from their gritty win against the Natte Bealiba Swans on Sunday. If the Hawks come out firing like they did against the Swans, then they should be able to set up a big score against Trentham on Saturday who are not enjoying success on the field this year.
The smaller running brigade of Brandon McRedmond, Matthew Smith, Richard Clark and Tim Solomon were outstanding last week as they took advantage of the dry ball in the opening term, and then the Hawks withstood the challenge of holding off the Swans for the remainder of the game.
Trentham finished the game off strongly against Harcourt last week and will be looking to continue that same form against the Hawks in the opening term, and then they may have some hope of providing a good contest for the remainder of the game.
Luke Whitehouse has been the main avenue to goal for the Saints and the rebuilding mode has provided an opportunity for very talented youngsters in Corey Pedley and James Cann to step up and play to their ability.
A two and two ratio and sitting sixth on the ladder, has the mood at Talbot on a high and they should be able to continue their winning run at home on Saturday.

Harcourt v Lexton
Harcourt has had a reasonably tough draw to date having faced Newstead and Carisbrook in the opening two games and then had a come from behind win over the improving Talbot Hawks, so they will be hosting Lexton this week with some confidence of causing and upset against the Tigers.
Lexton have lost a number of quality players from last season which they have covered with premiership players from last season’s reserves team, and despite this, are still a tough opponent, but are not the feared enemy that they once were.
Matt Brown was well covered by Brent Flood last week and it is rare that the key forward has two bad games in succession, so he will be a danger player and the likely match up will be Alan Mack who is once again in good form for the Lions. While down the other end, Matt Giri is the key player around goals for Harcourt and Lexton Coach Paul Phillips who is also in outstanding form will probably get the match up on the dangerous Giri.
A great contest is expected and the game could go either way.

Newstead v Dunolly
After a disappointing start to the game against Campbells Creek last week in which Dunolly allowed their opponents to score eleven goals in the first quarter, the Eagles actually fought back and outscored the Magpies for the remainder of the game.
Eagles Coach Tony Bellenger would be disappointed about the poor start to the game, but would be happy with the fighting quality that was displayed for the remainder of the game. That fighting qulity will have to be on display against the all conquering Newstead on Sunday if they are to have the slightest chance of causing an upset over the ladder leaders.
Mark Ramsey plays his 150th Senior game and Liam Bright plays his 100th senior game for Newstead who have been blessed with a very good draw to date and have been in outstanding form, having won all of their games by more than eighty points. The form of both teams suggests that this game could be no different as the Steaders are expected to post another win for Ramsey and Bright to celebrate.

CAMPBELL'S CREEK vs NATTE BEALIBA – SWANS LOOKS TO STOP SLIDE
Natte Bealiba coach Shane Green will have his sights firmly fixed upon arresting the Swans’ early-season slump when the side hits the road to take on a resurgent Campbells Creek this weekend.
After a shock loss to Talbot last weekend, the Swans will be desperate to reverse its fortunes, and with veteran midfielder and premiership-winning captain Brent Mortlock likely to come back into the side, Natte will be confident of getting the job done against the Magpies.
The home side will be no pushover however, with the Creekers off to their best start to a season in a number of years, largely on the back of a potent forward line boasting the talents of Joel Smith, Sean Smith and Chris Stone, who have booted the majority of the side’s goals this year, and will need to be on their game against a Natte side desperate to halt its losing streak.

MARYBOROUGH ROVERS v CARISBROOK – ROVERS IN FOR MORE PAIN?
A Maryborough Rovers side already struggling to keep its season afloat looks set for yet more pain this weekend, taking on a rampant Carisbrook.
Yet to score a win this season, Rovers will have to cause a major upset against the Redbacks if they’re to halt their losing streak. And with a number of key players, including coach Scott Sellers and his assistant, Corey Taylor under an injury cloud, that’s looking increasingly unlikely.
Carisbrook has begun its premiership defence in red-hot form, and after a mammoth victory over Avoca last round, will head into Saturday’s clash as raging favourites. Midfielder Matt Bilton has taken the competition by storm so far this season, wreaking havoc through the middle of the ground as well as in front of goal, while key forward Nathan Wright has begun in solid fashion, booting bags in his last couple of outings.
Rovers will need to be at their best just to limit the scoreboard damage against the rampaging Redbacks, who look set for another huge win.

ROYAL PARK vs NAVARRE – A TOUGH TASK FOR THE TIGES
The MCDFNL’s Cinderella story of the season thus far, Royal Park will face its toughest task yet as it comes up against a brutal Navarre outfit on Saturday.
With their best start to a season in more than five years under their belts, the Tigers will get a chance to measure just how much they’ve improved under new coach Greg Stewart when they confront one of the MCDFNL’s measuring sticks in the form of the Grasshoppers.
Navarre showcased just how good they are last weekend with a crushing win over Lexton, lead by coach Daniel Parkin, defender Brent Flood and midfielder Josh Driscoll.
Royal Park has scored wins over Trentham and Rovers thus far, but the challenge presented by the Grasshoppers may be too much for the Tigers to handle.
