The Bendigo Bank Maryborough & Castlemaine District Football Netball League are excited to announce that the special guest speaker at the 2013 Berry Powell Medal night will be three-time Geelong premiership defender Matthew Scarlett.
Scarlett, who retired from AFL football at the end of the 2012 season and is now a development coach at the Western Bulldogs, played 284 games with Geelong after joining the Cats as a father-son selection in the 1997 AFL Draft.
The 2003 Geelong Best & Fairest winner, Scarlett was named in six All-Australian teams and has been inducted into Geelong's Hall of Fame.
Given some of the media in recent days around the contents of Scarlett's soon-to-be-released biography the Berry Powell Medal night, which will be held at the Maryborough Highlands Society on Monday 9th September, should be quite the interesting night!
MCDFNL Operations Manager Scott Carey was excited to announce Scarlett's appearance at MCDFNL headquarters in Ballarat earlier this week.
"It will be fantastic to have someone fresh off an AFL career to give us his insights at [Berry Powell Medal] night", Carey mentioned earlier this week.
"Scarlett has had a fantastic career in the AFL and it will be an experience for clubs to hear from someone who's won premierships at the highest level in the middle of the MCDFNL finals".
"Also, with the recent comments aired from his book about Nick Maxwell and his almost legendary Mad Monday appearances over the years, we should get a few laughs out of the appearance as well".
Tickets to the Berry Powell Medal night, the MCDFNL's night of nights for season 2013, will be released in the coming days. To secure your ticket, please contact your club's President or Secretary
