The Goldfields Australian Football Coaches Association is pleased to announce it's inaugural winners of the Goldfields AFCA Coach of the Year awards for season 2013
All clubs across the AFL Goldfields region were encouraged to nominate a Senior and Junior/Youth coach for the monthly Coach of the Month awards throughout the 2013 season, from which a yearly Goldfields AFCA Coach of the Year was selected by Goldfields AFCA Executive members, and AFL Victoria Football Development Managers, Brett Anderson and Tim Shearer
The Coach of the Year winners received a special commemorative plaque and watch.
The winners of the Goldfields AFCA Coach of the Year awards for season 2013 are
- In the Junior Category (U.9 - U.12) the Goldfields AFCA Coach of the Year is John Polkinghorne from the North Ballarat JFC.
- In the Youth Category (U.13 - U.19) the Goldfields AFCA Coach of the Year is Andrew Gibbs from the Dunolly FNC.
- In the Senior Category (Open Age) the Goldfields AFCA Coach of the Year is Rick Horwood from the Sunbury FNC.
John, Andrew and Rick will be presented with their awards by AFL Victoria Football Development Managers Brett Anderson and Tim Shearer in the coming weeks.
Anderson has been more than happy with the way the Coach of the Month/Year awards have run in the first year of operation of the Goldfields AFCA, and looks forward to even more take-up in season 2014
"Thanks must go to all clubs who nominated coaches in 2013", Anderson commented.
"The support shown by the region's clubs to the Goldfields AFCA in 2013 has been fantastic, and we look forward to even more support when we roll out the Coach of the Month awards, seminars and coaching accreditation courses again in 2014", said Anderson.
Clubs will be contacted by their respective leagues to encourage them to nominate coaches when Coach of the Month nominations open again in time for the 2014 football and netball seasons.
