The midway point of the Central Highlands Regional State League netball competition is reached tonight, with the Maryborough & Castlemaine District FNL’s Open team looking to move into second place on the RSL ladder as they take on the Riddell District FNL at Llanberis Netball Centre tonight.
The MCDFNL’s Open side won their first game for the tournament last Friday night, defeating Eureka 48-44 in a game that they had well in control for the opening three quarters before Eureka came storming home with a 17 goal to eleven final quarter to almost take the game off a tiring MCDFNL side.
Still, there were plenty of positives taken from the game, with defenders Fiona Themann and Ashlee Lierich both impressive, and goal shooter Rachel Phelan connecting on 80% of her shots on goal after coming on to start the second quarter.
They’ll face an Riddell District FNL side that will still be smarting from a big loss to reigning premiers Ballarat FNL last week, so the MCDFNL side will need to be on the top of their game to leap-frog the RDFNL into second spot on the Regional State League ladder
The Open team takes on the Riddell District FNL at 8:30pm tonight on Court 1 at Llanberis Netball Centre
The MCDFNL’s 17 & Under side face a huge test tonight, coming up against an undefeated Riddell District FNL side that has looked super-impressive in its opening two games of the season. Natte Bealiba pair Shannae Mills and Janae Lanfranchi have been in good form over the first two rounds, and they’ll need to continue this form should the MCDFNL have a chance of what would be an upset victory tonight.
