The Maryborough Castlemaine District FNL’s Regional State League netball teams are back in action tonight, taking on the Ballarat FNL in the fourth round of the Central Highlands RSL tournament at Llanberis Netball Centre in Ballarat.
An undermanned MCDFNL Open side, missing regulars Fiona Themann, Jess Williamson and Kimberley Roberts, went down to the Riddell District FNL 53-38 last Friday, but despite being undermanned and without an interchange bench for most of the second half, the MCDFNL girls more than matched it with their more-fancied opponents, with much of the deficit coming in the first quarter of the game.
Whilst tonight’s opponents, the Ballarat FNL, are undefeated, the MCDFNL will fancy their chances as their Round 1 encounter was decided by just three goals in a game where the MCDFNL led for much of the contest.
The Open team take on the Ballarat FNL at 7:15pm tonight on Court 1 at Llanberis Netball Centre.
The MCDFNL’s 17 & Under side will also be in action, taking on a BFNL side who defeated them in Round 1.
The task will be a little bit harder for coaches Ash Lierich and Ash McClelland tonight, with star shooter Taylor Mason sidelined. Mason, who played in Navarre’s A Grade premiership team in 2013, fell heavily towards the end of last week’s match against the Riddell District FNL and will likely miss the rest of the Regional State League tournament with a fractured scaphoid bone in her right hand.
The 17 & Under team take on the Ballarat FNL at 8:30pm tonight on Court 2 at Llanberis Netball Centre.
