The Bendigo Bank Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League is proud to announce that Steve Broad is the new President of the MCDFNL.
Broad, who has previously spent time on the league Executive as Junior Development Officer from 2008 to 2012, filled the vacancy left on the Executive after the resignation of immediate past President Peter Kerr, and has agreed to serve as interim President until his role on the Executive is officially ratified at the 2014 MCDFNL AGM.
Broad has been involved with the MCDFNL for over 30 years as both a player and administrator with the Carisbrook Football Netball Club, with a short playing stint with Maryborough during their Ballarat FNL days as well. Broad spent over ten years on the Executive of the Castlemaine Junior Football League as well and, as previously mentioned, served as the MCDFNL’s Junior Development Officer for a significant amount of time, coaching junior interleague sides and helping to re-structure junior football in the region.
Upon his appointment, Broad has stated his intentions to ensure the long-term stability of the MCDFNL as his main challenge in his new role.
“The [MCDFNL] is in a pretty good spot with 14 clubs now, and I’m looking forward to helping all 14 clubs achieve full affiliation [across football and netball grades] to help stabilize the league and ensure its viability well into the future,” Broad commented.
When asked why he returned back to the MCDFNL Executive, Broad answered in his trademark blunt manner
“The league was looking for someone with experience, and I still think I have something left to offer,” Broad offered with a smile on his face.
Broad’s appointment was ratified by MCDFNL club delegates at a scheduled meeting on Wednesday night, with his first official duties as MCDFNL President coming at the league’s Season Launch at Avoca this Sunday.
