Talbot v Royal Park
Royal Park will face a tough challenge against Talbot in Round nine action in the Bendigo Bank Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League.
Royal Park returned to the winning list last week after two losses in a row to Newstead and Lexton saw them drop to sixth place on the ladder.
The Tigers staged a comeback in the final term against Harcourt last week to get back on the winning list and were well led by their onballers in Trent Pye and Brendan Birch who have regularly been their key playmakers this season. Taylor Stewart and Jay Anderson have added some experience to the team and stood up to the challenge when needed under pressure.
Talbot moved into the top eight after a percentage boosting performance against Avoca last week and will be very confident of their chances if they play to their capabilities against the Tigers.
The Hawks were at full strength against the Bulldogs after a number of players returned from the injury list and it showed that they are a good unit at full strength.
Trent Barras is a dangerous onballer having an outstanding season, and he also has the ability to finish well up forward, kicking twenty five goals for the season. Josh Parsons returned to the team last week after a short absence and kicked four goals and he is one that Royal Park will have to restrict if they are to win this game.
Karl Gunther played his best game of the season last week and showed that he can be a very dangerous forward if given the opportunity and he will provide a challenge for the Tigers defence.
This promises to be an entertaining game which could go either way, but the home ground could sway the points in favour of Talbot in front of their past players and sponsors who will be in attendance.

Maldon v Navarre
It has been a very tough season for Maldon so far and this will be their toughest assignment to date as they face Navarre in a top versus bottom clash.
The Grasshoppers have kicked over twenty five goals in four of their eight games this season and will most likely make it five from nine when they travel to Maldon this Saturday.
Maldon’s task has been made even more difficult with the loss of key players Joel Cross and Tom Cain to injury. The loss of Cross and Cain allows younger players like Damien Gatti and Xavier Mawson the opportunity to step into more challenging roles at senior level, and they have shown that are up to the challenge.
Navarre’s Ash Driscoll heads the goalkicking table with fifty one goals and has the opportunity to put some distance between himself and those below him on the table. Cody Driscoll (23 goals) and Kris Brennan (27 goals) add to the goalkicking power for Navarre with over 100 goals kicked between the three players.
Navarre are rolling along like the well-oiled machine that they are and should have no trouble against the Bombers.

Trentham v Harcourt
It has taken Harcourt some time to find their feet this season and despite losing to Royal Park last week, showed glimpses of what they can achieve when it all comes together.
Harcourt rely heavily on the midfield work of former Berry Powell Medallist Paul Chaplin to set up their forward moves and he is in the type of form that saw him win the medal in 2012, making him one of the key players for Trentham coach Clayton Scoble to try to keep quiet. Dean Watson was a notable absentee last week and his presence up forward was missed against Royal Park. Watson has kicked fourteen goals in his three previous games and will provide some tough opposition for the Saints defenders if he takes the field.
The Saints were held to only one goal last week against Lexton and will need to improve immensely if they are to defeat the Lions. Mark Strickland and Luke Whitehouse are the key forwards for Trentham and will be eager to put a winning score on the board this week at home. Chris Whelan has been in stellar form and will be hoping to give Strickland and Whitehouse first use of the ball.
Trentham are difficult to beat at home, but if the Lions play to their capabilities then they will get the points.

Natte Bealiba v Lexton
Fresh off the back of last week's upset win over Newstead, Natte Bealiba will seek to enhance its reputation as the MCDFNL's giantkillers as the Swans prepare to take on a rampant Lexton this weekend.
The Swans sent a message to the league's top teams last week with a win over the Roos, and if the Swans could pull off another win against the Tigers this weekend, it would certainly turn more than a few heads. Further enhancing Natte's chances of an upset are the seemingly likely return of defensive lynchpins Chris Jardine and Dean Graco, whose experience is integral to the Swans' backline set-up. The Swans will need to be at their best however, if they are to down the Tigers, who have been outstanding in recent weeks.
Lexton has looked nigh-on-undefeatable over the past few rounds, including posting one of the MCDFNL's biggest beltings of the season in round eight, when they restricted Trentham to just one goal, while spearhead Matt Brown when on the rampage up forward, booting 10 goals. A pivotal battle in this match will be between Brown and whichever Swans defender comes his way. Athletic backman Jamie Evans looms as the most likely match-up for Brown, but the Swans' midfielders will also have to ensure that his supply is limited from the Tigers' much-vaunted midfield.

Carisbrook v Maryborough Rovers
Carisbrook will go into its clash with Maryborough Rovers in hopes of scoring a major percentage boost as it looks to cement its spot in the MCDFNL's top four.
Despite a litany of injuries and unavailabilities, the Redbacks are still inside the league's top four, but are locked on points with fifth-placed Natte Bealiba and Royal Park in sixth. A big win over Rovers this weekend would give the Brook some much-needed breathing space as the second half of the season gets underway. The Redbacks' depth has proved integral to its success so far this season, and an encouraging sign for the club's selectors would have been the fact that every single one of its reserves players booted a goal against Dunolly in round eight. Several players may also be in line to return from injuries this round, boosting the side's chances of a major win.
Maryborough Rovers have proven that they are far from the pushovers of recent years however, with the Magpies boasting two wins so far in 2014, among some other close losses. The form of new recruit David Poopovski has been one of the major positives for the Pies so far this season, along with that of high-flying full forward Karson Guareschi. Rovers' newfound confidence was given a beating last week however, with a massive loss to Navarre, and bouncing back from that against the Brook will be a major task for the Magpies.

Newstead v Campbells Creek
Newstead will have its sights set on bouncing back to form this weekend, with the Roos taking on longtime rivals Campbells Creek this Sunday.
Newstead suffered its first loss of the 2014 season last round, and the Steaders will be keen to return to the winners list against the Creekers this round. Some uncharacteristically sloppy and at times, undisciplined play lead to the Roos undoing last week, and coach Ross Smith will have drilled that into his players this week ahead of Sunday's clash. Mark Ramsey was again outstanding in last week's clash with Natte Bealiba, but needs some assistance up forward.
Campbells Creek have been strong on their home turf so far this season, but it is losses away from home that continue to hurt the Magpies' chances of a finals berth. While they will be keen to reverse that trend this week, coming up against a Newstead side on the rebound from a defeat could prove a bridge too far for the Creek. Some of the Magpies' key players have been a little down on form in recent rounds, and will need to bounce back of they hope to defeat their Newstead rivals on Sunday.

Dunolly v Avoca
Avoca and Dunolly are both yet to win a game this season and both teams will be out to change that at Deledio Reserve on Sunday.
Dunolly drew with Trentham in the first game, but have not challenged any team since that opening round. The Eagles have been very competitive in the first quarter in most of their games this season, but fail to maintain the challenge as the game progresses. Jay Pitto has been a very good recruit and is regularly the chief playmaker for the Eagles and he is a player that the Bulldogs will need to restrict if they are to get their first win of the season.
Harry Warren is another that has added some depth to the Eagles down back and he will provide a tough challenge for Murray Bond who will need to be at his best for the Bulldogs.
Both teams are coming off big losses, but Avoca would be very disappointed with their performance against Talbot which was a match that they were expected to be competitive in.
Mitch Kennedy was absent from that match and he is expected to return to bolster the Bulldogs midfield, which will be much needed as Tony Bellenger is a tough competitor, and will be looking to give the Eagles first use of the ball out of the middle.
If the Eagles can get off to a good start in this match, then they will certainly have the opportunity to post their first win off the season at home in a close match.
