Sunday’s clash between local rivals Newstead and Campbells Creek will pay tribute to the servicemen and women of Australia and celebrate the Anzac spirit of courage, sacrifice and endurance.
Campbells Creek will host the only local senior club football game across the Castlemaine district over the ANZAC weekend. In honour of the Anzacs Campbells Creek have invited the Castlemaine RSL to this weeks game to pay tribute to the Anzac spirit.
Before the commencement of the senior match a special Anzac service will held. Members from the Castlemaine RSL sub-branch will provide a flag raising ceremony, and read the Ode of Remembrance, followed by a minutes silence and playing of the last post.
During half time an afternoon tea will be provide for local servicemen and women and Campbells Creek and Newstead executive committee members. Representatives from the Campbells Creek Primary School and Olivet Christian College will be walk a donation sheet around the ground at half time, all donations will go to the Castlemaine RSL sub-branch.
Event organiser and long time Campbells Creek committee member Steve Adamson said ‘ the days activities help our clubs and players to remember the sacrifice and success of our x-servicemen and women , to put in prospective we are fighting for a win, they fought for us, it is the least we can do’
The senior game kicks off from 2.35pm at the Campbells Creek FNC. Free entry for RSL members and servicemen and women. The best player from both sides will be presented with a medal from Castlemaine RSL President Ernie Plumridge.
