Newstead v Natte Bealiba
Natte Bealiba has clawed its way to its fourth win of the 2015 season, overcoming a spirited Newstead in a fiery round five clash.
A seven-goal haul from key forward Adrian Pilgrim proved the difference between the two sides, with the Swans snaring the four points, 19.6 (120) to 12.10 (82).
After their breakthrough win of the season last round, the Roos were keen to show that they could match with it with one of the league's top sides, and if it weren't for some errant kicking, they could have entered the first break well ahead of Natte, instead going into the break two points behind the Swans, 3.1(19) to 2.5 (7).
As Natte struggled to overcome yet another slow start, the Steaders continued their frenzied attack on the ball and their opponents, but Natte managed to kick away, booting six second-term goals to establish a 10-point buffer by the main break.
A surge from Newstead in the third term took the Swans by surprise, with the Roos slamming on five goals to Natte's two, with scores locked at three quarter time as the game took a physical, bruising turn.
Natte's class through the midfield proved the difference in the final quarter, with veteran Brent Mortlock, Daniel Gifford and Ash Evans continually sending their side into attack, resulting in seven final quarter goals, while Newstead managed just one major as the young side ran out of puff, despite an impressive first three quarters.
Pilgrim's seven goals earned him best afield honours for the Swans, joined by Jarrod Bateson, Ash Evans, Brent Mortlock and Jacob Long, while Bateson, Zac Perez and Matt Stagg all booted two goals for Natte.
Young key position player Ben Krol ended the day with five of Newstead's goals to his name, while fellow youngster Michael Dalrymple booted two. Adam Hunter, Dalrymple, Krol, Brent Devereaux and Jayden Bott were Newstead's best.
Lexton v Dunolly
Things have gone from bad to worse for Dunolly in round five of the MCDFNL, with the Eagles on the wrong end of yet another pasting, this time copping a 144-point flogging from Lexton.
With the Tigers keen to atone for a disappointing performance in round four, they did that and more, demolishing the hapless Eagles 21.21 (147) to 0.3 (3).
Dunolly at time looked helpless to stop the onslaught from Lexton, with the carnage beginning with a six-goal opening quarter and never letting up, as the Tigers established a 57-point lead by the main break. Things simply got worse from thereon for the Eagles, who had little opportunity to score, with Lexton enjoying a nine-goal third term to push the margin in excess of 100. Four more final quarter goals pushed the lead to past 140 in a dirty day out for the Eagles and their fans.
The Tigers boasted seven individual goal kickers, led by Matt Brown with four goals, while Nick Spolding, Damon Aspland, Jacob Spolding and Nathan Barnes were Lexton's standouts.
With Dunolly unable to kick one goal for the day, their best players were Jordi Philbrick, Jeremy Hancock, Mick Campbell and Corey Dawson.
Royal Park v Talbot
Royal Park defeated Talbot by 59 points in a game that the Tigers were always in control and once again finished strongly in the final quarter.
Stefan Pye and Taylor Stewart set up a lot of forward moves for Royal Park in the opening term, with Pye creating play through the middle and Stewart creating a loose man on the clubroom wing, with forwards Zac Stewart (two goals) and Josh Brown both amongst the goals early, whilst Jarrod Kemp was Talbot’s only opening-quarter goalkicker as the Tigers took a 21 point lead into the quarter-time break.
Royal Park’s Ash Noonan was instrumental in setting up the first two goals of the second term through Ben Clay and Murray Bond to increase their lead, despite Talbot coach Matt Smith gathering a lot of possessions in the back half. Talbot posted a late goal through Trent Barras when he was on the end of a bullet pass from Tom Sutherland, but the Tigers held the upper hand with a 31 point lead at half time.
Talbot came out strongly in the third term but wasted a number of scoring opportunities until Barras kicked his second of the game with a left foot snap at the ten minute mark. The play was very scrappy with both teams failing to capitalise on their forward entries, but it was still the Tigers who controlled the game as they shared the ball around and switched play whenever the Hawks applied any pressure, running away with the game in the second half to win by 59 points.
While Royal Park had a number of goal kickers, led by Zac Stewart finishing the game with five goals, the Tigers win was set up in the middle and the back half with James Sutherland and Stefan Pye creating a lot of play through the middle and around the ground. Talbot was well served by Luke How, Lachy Griffiths and Liam Belcher, while Trent Barras was the only multiple goal scorer.

Navarre v Avoca
The Navarre juggernaut continues to roll on as they posted a comfortable 119 point victory over Avoca on Saturday, their twenty-seventh straight win
Once again the Bulldogs got off to a slow start as the Grasshoppers had 12 scoring shots to nil in the opening term, but it would be fair to say that Navarre had the upper hand all day as they outclassed Avoca all around the ground.
The Bulldogs lost one of their more experienced players in Michael Henningsen with concussion just before half time, but his absence had little bearing on the result of the game as the Grasshoppers ran out big winners by 119 points.
Navarre’s younger players in Lachlan Slorach and Cody Driscoll are stepping up a level and becoming leaders as they were once again amongst the better players and Cody finished with five goals to fill the void of his brother Ash who missed the game through injury.
Jake Nicholson was again the stand out player for Avoca, and was well supported by Bryce and Daniel Howell, and Mick Henningsen, until leaving the field before half time.

Carisbrook v Maryborough Rovers
Carisbrook has steamrolled yet another opponent under lights, this time demolishing Maryborough Rovers in a 110-point round five win for the Redbacks.
The Brookers completely outclassed their opponents, booting 21 goals for the night, all the while keeping the Magpies to just four goals for the game.
The Redbacks exploded out of the blocks with seven first quarter goals, and never looked back, banging on another five majors in the second term to establish a 56-point break by half time, 12.4 (76) to 3.2 (20).
Things got even worse for the Magpies after the main break, with the home side enjoying yet another seven goal quarter in the third term, while allowing Rovers to kick just two behinds. The Redbacks took their foot off the pedal slightly in the final term, only booting three final term majors, but the damage was done, with Carisbrook taking the points, 21.13 (139) to 4.5 (29).
Nathan Wright continued his good form for the Redbacks in front of goal, booting four for the night, while Brady Neill (three), Ryan Hudson-Morgan (two) and Adam Hurse (two) all kicked multiple goals for Carisbrook. Ben Kick, Hayden Barby, Lachlan Edwards and Luke Treacy were named the best players for the victors.
Rovers' goal kicking was shared between four players, with Brayden Guareschi, Dion Hedger, David Popovski and Brendon Hedger featured in the Magpies' best performers.
Trentham v Maldon
Trentham suffered their second defeat in succession when Maldon finished strongly to overturn a 12 point deficit at the final changeover into a 14 point victory at the final siren.
Coach Clayton Scoble would be very disappointed with the Saints failure to play out four quarters, but his counterpart in Brian Kelly would be very happy with the Bombers performance and their desire to keep on attacking until the final siren.
Maldon had the opportunity to take the upper hand in the second term, but their inaccuracy around the goals was costly as they butchered a number of shots on goal.
The Saints took advantage in the third quarter and could be forgiven for thinking that they held the upper hand as they kicked four straight goals to two and looked to be in control of the game.
But the Bombers were everywhere in the final term and with the majority of the ball in their possession; they stormed home over the top of the Saints to victory.
It was the experience of Shaun Burchell, Joel Cross and Hayden Kelly that once again led from the front, but they were also joined by Nick Kelly, Vaughan Williams and Chris Milham amongst the better players.
Trentham’s Chris Whelan, Justin Hoffman and Luke Whitehouse again figured amongst the better players, and Whitehouse was also the key goal kicker with three goals.

Harcourt v Campbells Creek
A big crowd was on hand to witness the Blue Ribbon Round and Castlemaine Derby at Harcourt Recreation Reserve on Sunday.
It was one way traffic all day as the Harcourt Lions quickly took control of the game and it was noticeable that they Lions were using the services of former AFL player Damien Lock to advantage, as he had the ball on a string on the outer wing for much of the game.
Harcourt held the upper hand at the centre bounce, whether Adam Pollock was in the Ruck or Chris Ling who put the ball in the pathway of Jeff McMurtrie numerous times throughout the game, and the Lions took full advantage of McMurtrie’s ability to get the ball in to the scoring zone quickly, which allowed Chris Stone to score six majors for the game.
Adam Ward and Brendan Josey were also under notice throughout the game as was Daniel Smith and the high flying Joel Smith once again pleased the crowd with one of his big marks, while Josh Collinson was also outstanding across half back in the first half repelling the ball whenever Creek was advancing.
The Magpies did fight the game out and won the final term on the scoreboard, but the game was well and truly over early in the game. Jye Cartledge continued his good form for Creek with another mention in the better players, while Jayden Molloy did a reasonable job tagging Joel Smith and keeping him to just three goals for the game.
Harcourt won 17.13.115 to Campbells Creek 6.10.46
