The Bendigo Bank Maryborough Castlemaine District Football & Netball League is deeply saddened to learn of the passing over the weekend of MCDFNL and Trentham District FNC Life Member Vin Cowell after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Vin’s service to Trentham was legendary, doing everything he could to help out his beloved Saints. On field, Vin played over 350 games with Trentham, captaining the senior side during his career and also serving as coach of the Reserves, Under 17’s and junior sides for over fifteen years. He continued to fill in for the Saints’ reserves sides up until a couple of seasons ago, and always took his gear to every game “just in case”!
Off the field, Vin’s contributions to Trentham were just as large, serving three terms as President, four terms as Vice President, Secretary, Tribunal Advocate and was the Saints’ League Delegate for many years.
Vin’s yearn to be involved with Trentham saw him serve the club in just about every capacity – he’d been trainer, field, boundary or goal umpire, runner, water carrier, scoreboard attendant, time keeper, Ground Manager or whatever role had to be filled, even after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease nine years ago. Up until recently, Vin could be seen on match days doing whatever is required of him, most of all running water for his beloved Seniors.
Vin’s service to the Trentham FNC was recognised in 2012 when he was awarded MCDFNL Life Membership.
The MCDFNL and the Trentham FNC will sorely miss Vin Cowell, and his legacy will live on forever every time a red, white and black jumper graces the football field.
Rest well Vin, you’ve more than earned it.
